Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Software Development Manager (L6) for AWS Infrastructure Supply Chain in Bengaluru. You will lead a team of SDEs building large-scale distributed systems that support procurement, manufacturing, shipping and deployment of thousands of racks across global data centers.

You will own the roadmap, set priorities, and partner with stakeholders across demand planning, manufacturing, and logistics.

Software Development Manager, AWS Infrastructure Supply Chain

Role Overview

As an L6 Software Development Manager in AWS Infrastructure Supply Chain, you will define the strategic vision for your team, establish a roadmap, and successfully deliver software that powers one of the world's largest and most complex physical infrastructure supply chains. You will independently manage a team of SDEs building large-scale distributed systems that enable AWS to procure, manufacture, ship, and deploy hundreds of thousands of server and network racks into data centers globally across AMER, EMEA, APAC, and GOVT regions.

Strategic Ownership

Define the strategic vision for your team, partnering effectively with customers and stakeholders across the supply chain lifecycle — from demand planning and material supportability to manufacturing, logistics, and DC deployment. Establish a roadmap and successfully deliver software that executes that vision, aligned with the end-to-end supply chain needs spanning systems like S&OP POR, RP3, Build Planner, Fulfillment Planner, and the Infrastructure Control Tower. Make crisp, independent decisions about what projects move forward and in what priority order, balancing competing priorities across demand forecasting, capacity planning, fulfillment optimization, and observability. Write narratives, PR/FAQs, and other strategic documentation to drive alignment and decision-making.

Technical Domain

Your team will work on one or more of the following areas:

• Real-time observability platforms — powering the Infrastructure Control Tower that tracks 100K+ active demands through stage progression, dwell times, blocker reason codes, and checkpoint milestones.
• AI/ML-driven forecasting — demand planning, ETA prediction, and supply-demand matching across 130+ component categories and 1,400+ Superset Fungibility Groups (SFGs).
• Optimization engines — capacity planning systems that match server/network demand (converted to kW) against DC power supply at lineup, breaker, site, and meter-site levels.
• Multi-agent orchestration systems — coordinating fulfillment across vendors, manufacturing sites, and DC positions in priority order (ML → Network → Non-ML).
• Data pipelines — processing millions of events daily across the fulfillment pipeline from Purchase Request through to Handoff.

People Leadership

Independently manage a team of SDEs; hire the right mix of engineers to accomplish team goals. Assess SDE performance effectively; manage both high and low performers and take effective action addressing employee concerns. Hire, develop, and promote SDEs, delegating appropriately based on the strength and development objectives of individuals on your team. Build an effective development process that consistently delivers software with minimal defects and system disruption.

Customer & Operational Excellence

Define metrics to measure customer experience, team development progress, and operational excellence across the supply chain systems your team owns. Establish customer engagement mechanisms to stay connected to the needs of internal customers — service teams (EC2, S3, EBS), supply planners, manufacturing partners, and logistics operators. Ensure your team adheres to SLAs and effectively manages software operations. Proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of your manager, customers, and stakeholders with mitigation plans before they become roadblocks. Know when to escape to Senior Leaders. Deliver Results.

Establish and execute a roadmap that aligns with the end-to-end supply chain lifecycle, translating business needs into engineering deliverables. Make crisp, independent decisions about project prioritization, balancing competing demands across systems like RP3, Fulfillment Planner, Build Planner, and Control Tower. Author narratives, PR/FAQs, and strategic documents to drive alignment with leadership and stakeholders.

Technical Delivery & Operational Excellence

Deliver high-quality software consistently with minimal defects and system disruption across large-scale distributed systems processing millions of events daily. Manage software operations effectively — ensuring uptime, reliability, and performance for systems tracking 100K+ active demands. Define and monitor metrics for team development progress, customer experience, and operational excellence (e.g., stage dwell times, on-track/off-track KPIs, manufacturing output trends). Drive continuous improvement — improve software quality and operational performance metrics under your leadership.

People Management & Development

Independently manage a team of SDEs — hire the right mix of engineers to accomplish team goals. Assess SDE performance and manage both high and low performers with effective action. Hire, develop, and promote SDEs — build a talent pipeline and export talent across the organization. Delegate appropriately — assign tasks based on individual strengths and development objectives, stretching engineers into areas like AI/ML forecasting, optimization engines, and real-time observability.

Customer Engagement & Stakeholder Management

Partner effectively with customers and stakeholders — internal service teams (EC2, S3, EBS), supply planners, GSMs, manufacturing partners (Jabil, Foxconn, Quanta), and logistics operators. Establish customer engagement mechanisms to stay connected to evolving supply chain needs. Define metrics to measure customer experience across the fulfillment pipeline — from Purchase Request through Handoff.

Risk Management & Escalation

Proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of your manager, customers, and stakeholders with mitigation plans before they become roadblocks. Know when to escape to Senior Leaders — especially critical in a domain where delays in manufacturing, material shortages, or DC readiness issues can cascade across the global fleet. Ensure your team adheres to SLAs across all systems and operational commitments.

Culture & Process

Build an effective development process that enables sustainable, high-quality delivery. Use mechanisms, not good intentions — establish trust-and-verify systems for operational excellence, code quality, and team health. Drive root cause analysis — instill a culture of asking "5 whys," fixing to root cause, and adding missing metrics after incidents.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
