Job summary

Barclays seeks a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to enhance our automated testing capabilities and software quality. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks centered on Java, with UI automation using Playwright, Cypress or Selenium.

You’ll integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines and advocate Shift Left testing, contributing to resilient digital offerings. You will collaborate with developers and product teams to ensure high quality at code and design

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience as an SDET / Automation Engineer with a focus on test automation
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks using Java or similar OO languages
  • Experience with UI automation frameworks like Playwright, Cypress and Selenium
  • Knowledge of test automation design patterns, data management, and reporting
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Knowledge of Shift Left testing, test pyramid, and continuous testing practices
  • Ability to collaborate with developers to influence quality at code and design level

Join us as a Software Development Engineer in Test in Barclays, responsible for supporting the successful delivery of location strategy projects to plan, budget, agreed quality and governance standards. You'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to revolutionise our digital offerings, ensuring unparalleled customer experiences.

To be successful as a Software Development Engineer in Test you should have experience with:
  • Strong hands-on experience as an SDET / Automation Engineer, with a clear focus on test automation over manual testing
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks using Java (preferred) or similar OO languages
  • Solid experience with UI automation frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress and Selenium
  • Strong understanding of test automation design patterns, test data management, and reporting
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Strong knowledge of Shift Left testing, test pyramid, and continuous testing practices
  • Ability to collaborate with developers to influence quality at code and design level.
Some Other Highly Valued Skills May Include
  • Handson experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) tooling or Adobe Cloud ecosystem
  • Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling)
  • Exposure to accessibility testing (WCAG) and SEO validation for web platforms
  • Experience working in regulated or enterprise scale environments
  • Familiarity with containerisation or cloud platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure - testing perspective)
  • ISTQB or equivalent certification (optional)

The role is based out of Pune.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
