Job summary

Purplle seeks a seasoned Backend Engineer to own our resilient ecosystem. You will drive architecture for high-throughput Node.js (NestJS) and Golang microservices, leveraging Kafka, Redis, MongoDB, and MySQL on Kubernetes in the cloud.

A strong focus on performance, cost efficiency, observability, and secure, scalable API design is required. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Product and DevOps, and push for low Sev-1 incidents with robust automation and self-healing patterns.

Qualifications

• Experience with Node.js (NestJS/Express) and Golang backend services.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, and message queues like Kafka.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of high-throughput, event-driven microservices built on Kubernetes and cloud platforms.
• Architect resilient backend with circuit breakers, health checks, and fallback mechanisms.
• Improve unit economics of data layer, optimize queries, and ensure sub-second p99 latency.

Responsibilities:

• AI-Native Velocity: Lead the 70% AI-assisted PR mandate by mastering Cursor, Copilot, and Claude to accelerate delivery of Node.js (NestJS) and Golang microservices while keeping human intelligence focused on high-level system design and architecture decisions.
• Unbreakable Backend Architecture: Architect high-throughput, event-driven microservices using Kafka and Redis, embedding resilience patterns like circuit breakers, health checks, and fallback mechanisms to handle massive traffic spikes without manual intervention.
• Data and Performance Ownership: Own the unit economics of the data layer, optimize MySQL and MongoDB queries, design efficient schemas, and ensure sub-second p99 latencies with predictable infrastructure costs on GCP.
• End-to-End Golden Path Ownership: Drive features from design docs to Kubernetes deployment, ensuring high reliability through strong engineering practices and maintaining low change failure rates and minimal Sev-1 incidents.
• API and Service Design Excellence: Build clean, versioned, and backward-compatible APIs and modular microservices with a strong focus on maintainability, scalability, and clear service contracts.
• Cloud-Native Operations and Observability: Design and operate services on Kubernetes with robust logging, monitoring, and alerting; proactively debug production issues and ensure high availability.
• Scalability and Cost Efficiency: Continuously optimize system throughput, fault tolerance, and infrastructure utilization to support high growth while maintaining strict control over cloud costs.
• Technical Leadership and Collaboration: Lead design decisions, write clear RFCs, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, Data, and DevOps teams to drive high-quality outcomes.
• Core Engineering Excellence: Apply strong fundamentals in distributed systems, concurrency, and data structures, combined with sharp problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.

Candidate Profile:

• The Systems Thinker (Quality and Resilience): You hate fixing the same bug twice. You'd rather build a self-healing mechanism than perform a manual fix. Your goal is to maintain a change failure rate of < 1.5% and help us reach a state of fewer than 2 Sev-1 incidents per quarter.
• The AI-Fluent Architect (High Velocity): You are already using AI tools to 10x your own productivity. You leverage these tools to drive a cycle time of < 4 hours and maintain a high frequency of daily deployments, moving code from commit to production with total confidence.
• The Data-Informed Engineer (Economic Discipline): You care about the why behind the code. You understand that latency and cloud spend are engineering disciplines, and you optimize your infrastructure so that our cost-per-order remains predictable as we scale.
• The Proactive Collaborator (Security and Governance): You thrive in a cross-functional environment (Eng, Data, DevOps, Security). You take ownership of the Golden Path, ensuring 100% of your repositories are gated and that zero critical vulnerabilities ever reach our production environment.
