Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an OpenSearch Service Engineer to design, develop, and operate a scalable search platform serving thousands of domains. You will optimize performance, cost, and reliability in a highly virtualized cloud environment.

You will mentor other engineers, shape the technical direction, and work with a global operations team to ensure 24x7 uptime for critical search services. AWS values diverse experiences and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability & scaling).
• 3+ years of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, Lucene/SOLR or Storm/Samza.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support a world-class OpenSearch Service that manages thousands of search domains.
• Focus on scalability, performance, service robustness, and cost trade-offs in a cloud environment.
• Apply scientific analysis and mathematical modeling to predict, measure, and evaluate design outcomes.
• Continuously drive to explore, improve, automate, and optimize distributed systems and tools.
• Collaborate with a dedicated operations team to ensure 24x7 operation of the service.
• Participate in setting a vision and objectives for Amazon OpenSearch Service.
• Mentor other SDEs and advise leadership on technical direction.

As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

As An Amazon OpenSearch Service Engineer, You Will

• Design, develop, and support a world-class OpenSearch Service that manages thousands of search domains.
• Focus on scalability, performance, service robustness, and cost trade-offs. (Especially as they pertain to a highly-virtualized, elastic, cloud-based environment)
• Apply scientific analysis and mathematical modeling techniques to predict, measure, and evaluate the consequences of designs and the ongoing success of our platform
• Continuously drive to explore, improve, enhance, automate, and optimize distributed systems and tools to best meet evolving business and market needs
• Work alongside a dedicated operations team to develop and support the smooth 24x7 operation of our worldwide service
• Participate in setting a vision and objectives for Amazon OpenSearch Service in alignment with business and market needs
• Invent the future of search instead of just being a bystander
• Mentor other SDEs and advise the leadership team on the technical vision.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 3+ years of big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, Lucene/SOLR or Storm/Samza experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
