Job summary

Spiro is hiring a Software Architect in India (Pune or Bangalore) to own technical direction for a platform spanning battery swapping, fleet telematics, energy commerce, and CRM in real time. You will set the technical bar, design scalable systems, and ensure 99.999% uptime across multiple markets and connected hardware.

You will craft ADRs, LL ds, and reference implementations, mentor senior engineers, and collaborate with DevOps to optimize multi-account cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in a dedicated architecture role.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and event streaming.
• Working knowledge of IoT architectures and device security is a plus.

We're looking for exceptional engineers and leaders to join us in Pune or Bangalore to help build this platform. This isn't a "big company problems, big company headcount" environment - you'll own systems end-to-end, with a bar for technical rigor set by experience at top product tech companies, but a working style built for a company still being built.

The Role

We're hiring a Software Architect to own technical direction across a platform that spans battery swapping, fleet telematics, energy commerce, and CRM - all operating in real time, across nine markets, on connected hardware most architects never get to touch. You'll design systems built to scale to billions of events a day and over 1 million transactions a day, engineered for 99.999% uptime. You'll set the technical bar, own systems end-to-end, make (and document) the hard tradeoffs, and be the person teams come to when a design needs to hold up under real-world scale and failure conditions.

What You'll Do

• Own end-to-end architecture for core platform domains - asset registries, event pipelines, device security, and data platforms - producing LLDs, ADRs, and API contracts that teams can build against confidently.


• Design and evolve our real-time data and caching/resilience infrastructure for correctness, latency, and cost at scale - building systems designed to scale to billions of events a day and over 1 million transactions a day, engineered for 99.999% uptime, working with top-notch, modern technology across the stack.


• Define security architecture for IoT device communication - including certificate-based device security frameworks, secure command delivery, and cryptographic signing schemes across our connected fleet.


• Drive architectural decisions with the same rigor as a top product tech company - proper ADRs, tradeoff docs, and reference implementations - but sized appropriately for a team that needs to move fast.


• Review and unblock designs across the engineering org; identify when a "quick fix" will become next year\'s bottleneck and say so early.


• Partner with DevOps/Platform on our multi-account cloud infrastructure, balancing isolation, cost, and operational simplicity.


• Mentor senior engineers into architectural thinking rather than being the sole decision-maker on every design.

What You Bring

• 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in a dedicated architecture role, ideally including systems experience at a top product tech company followed by startup or scale-up experience.


• Deep expertise in distributed systems, event streaming, and both relational and analytical/time-series data stores.


• Working knowledge of IoT architectures and device security (certificate-based auth, cryptographic signing) is a strong plus given our connected fleet.


• A bias toward pragmatic documentation - you write ADRs and LLDs that engineers actually use, not architecture-for-its-own-sake.


• Comfortable being the last line of defense on a design review and equally comfortable writing code when a reference implementation is needed.

Nice to Have

• Experience with semantic layers / analytics platforms over modern analytical data stores.


• Background in fintech, energy, or mobility infrastructure.


• Experience architecting for emerging markets with variable connectivity and infrastructure constraints.
