Job summary

Trimble is hiring an aspiring Machine Learning Engineer in Chennai to work with our CMS team. You will gain hands‑on exposure to real industrial data and contribute to the ML project lifecycle under senior mentorship.

You will build foundations in ML engineering, data processing, and MLOps practices while learning modern tools and cloud environments in a collaborative, growth‑driven setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field; strong academic record.
• Solid understanding of ML concepts, evaluation metrics, and basic DL.
• Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and algorithm design.
• Familiarity with common ML libraries and data processing workflows.
• Experience with Git/GitHub for version control.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, testing, and deploying foundational ML models under supervision.
• Contribute to data collection pipelines, feature engineering, and data cleaning for training sets.
• Perform basic debugging, unit tests, and code documentation to ensure quality.

Key Exciting Responsibilities

Essential Skills & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field (Trimble’s Professional ladder typically requires four or more years of formal education).
• Foundational ML Literacy: Solid conceptual understanding of machine learning principles, evaluation metrics, statistical methods, and foundational deep learning concepts.
• Programming Proficiency: Strong coding skills in Python with practical experience in data manipulation and algorithm design using standard libraries such as NumPy, pandas, and scikit‑learn.
• Data Structures & Problem Solving: Solid understanding of fundamental data structures and basic data modeling concepts, with the ability to follow structured engineering methodologies to solve well‑defined problems.
• Bonus Points For: Practical familiarity with standard deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Baseline understanding of cloud environments (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or GCP).
• Hands‑on experience with version control systems (Git/GitHub) and basic Linux/Bash scripting.
• A strong academic portfolio or GitHub profile showcasing practical ML/data science projects.
• Academic exposure to generative AI concepts, transformer architectures, or Large Language Models (LLMs).
