Job summary

CME Group is seeking an entry-level SRE I to start a career building, operating, and scaling systems behind CMEs Globex trading platform. Mentored by senior engineers, you will learn to observe, monitor, automate, and improve Production service reliability in a supportive team.

You will be trained on how we observe, monitor, automate, and improve reliability, with hands-on exposure to distributed systems in a trading environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with DR and resiliency testing.
• Support migration of applications to Google Cloud Platform.

CME Group is seeking a SRE I to begin their career in our Markets portfolio. This is an entry-level opportunity to learn how to build, operate, and scale the systems behind CMEs Globex trading platform. Our systems deliver an exceptional combination of low-latency performance and rock-solid reliability, and this role offers a unique chance to learn from the ground up.

The successful candidate will be mentored by senior engineers and will be trained on how we observe, monitor, automate, and improve Production service reliability in a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Learn from and work alongside senior engineers to assist with building out observability, monitoring, and alerting for key services.
• Shadow senior engineers as they partner with product teams to understand the reliability and scalability needs for new features.
• Write and maintain basic scripts and tools to help reduce toil and improve engineering velocity.
• Contribute to and learn from our culture of blameless post-mortems to drive continuous improvement.
• Assist with DR (Disaster Recovery) and systems resiliency testing.
• Support the migration of markets applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• After a period of training and mentorship, begin to shadow and then participate in the on-call rotation with direct support from senior engineers.

• An interest in metrics monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Foundational knowledge of networking concepts (HTTP, TCP/IP).
