Qualifications

• Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Mining, or related engineering.
• Relevant experience in steel plant operations and slag processing.
• Experience with heavy-duty crushing, screening, conveying, and magnetic separation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure continuous and stable processing of BOF slag as per production requirements & targets.
• Monitor slag feeding, crushing, screening, magnetic separation, metal recovery, and material dispatch operations.
• Ensure proper handling and segregation of recovered metallics, processed slag, and rejects.
• Monitor operational condition of crushers, screens, conveyors, and other MRP equipment; coordinate maintenance.
• Ensure strict safety, housekeeping, and environmental compliance across the area.

Job Description

1. Shift Operations

• Lead and monitor day-to-day shift operations of BOF slag processing and MRP equipment.
• Ensure continuous and stable processing of BOF slag as per production requirements & targets.
• Monitor slag feeding, crushing, screening, magnetic separation, metal recovery, and material dispatch operations.
• Ensure proper handling and segregation of recovered metallics, processed slag, and rejects.

2. Metal Recovery & Process Optimization

• Maximize recovery of metallic iron from BOF slag while maintaining required slag quality.
• Monitor feed characteristics, processing parameters, screen performance, magnetic separation efficiency, and material yields.
• Analyze metal recovery, slag generation, metallic losses, and process deviations.
• Identify opportunities to improve recovery, throughput, energy consumption, and operating cost.

3. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination

• Monitor operational condition of crushers, screens, conveyors, magnetic separators, feeders, pumps, dust-control systems, and other MRP equipment.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical teams for breakdowns and planned maintenance.
• Ensure timely reporting and follow-up of equipment abnormalities.
• Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
• Ensure proper equipment start-up, shutdown, isolation, and emergency response procedures.

4. Safety & Environment

• Ensure strict compliance with plant safety rules, SOPs, work permits, and PPE requirements.
• Conduct shift safety briefings/toolbox talks and ensure safe working practices.
• Identify and control hazards related to slag processing, heavy equipment, conveyors, dust, moving machinery, and material handling.
• Ensure housekeeping standards across the slag-processing area.
• Monitor dust suppression and environmental-control systems.
• Report istops, near misses, unsafe conditions, and incidents and implement corrective actions.

5. Manpower Management

• Supervise operators, technicians, contract manpower, and other shift personnel.
• Allocate manpower according to operational requirements.
• Monitor attendance, discipline, productivity, and adherence to SOPs.
• Train and coach operators on process operation, equipment handling, and safety.
• Ensure effective shift handover and communication between incoming and outgoing teams.

• Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Mining, or related engineering discipline.
• Relevant experience in steel plant operations, BOF slag processing, slag handling, metal recovery, or material-processing plants.
• Experience with heavy-duty crushing, screening, conveying, and magnetic separation systems is preferred.

Experience

• Typically 5–10 years of relevant experience, with shift-handling experience preferred.
• Experience in BOF slag processing/MRP or steel plant slag management will be an advantage.
