Overview

The Shift Engineer will be responsible for managing hospital engineering operations during assigned shifts, ensuring uninterrupted functioning of utilities, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, and facility equipment. This requires strong technical knowledge, emergency response capability, preventive maintenance coordination, and team supervision. The candidate will support safe hospital operations by minimizing breakdowns, maintaining engineering documentation, and coordinating with clinical, administrative, and vendor teams.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering and maintenance activities during assigned hospital shifts.
• Monitor electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, DG sets, lifts, and utility equipment.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, emergency calls, and facility-related service requests.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance activities as per approved schedules and checklists.
• Ensure uninterrupted power, water, air conditioning, ventilation, and critical utility support.
• Maintain shift logs, equipment readings, breakdown records, and maintenance documentation.
• Allocate work to technicians and monitor completion of assigned maintenance tasks.
• Coordinate with clinical departments to resolve engineering issues affecting patient care areas.
• Ensure compliance with hospital safety standards, fire safety norms, and facility procedures.
• Support vendor visits, AMC service activities, equipment inspection, and repair coordination.
• Monitor energy usage, equipment performance, and opportunities for operational efficiency.
• Report repeated breakdowns, safety risks, and major technical issues to senior management.
• Ensure availability of essential tools, spares, and emergency maintenance materials.
• Follow infection control, safety, and housekeeping standards during maintenance work.
• Support audits, inspections, and compliance documentation related to engineering operations.
