Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a seasoned mechanical designer to work on a major defense program. You will develop CAD models and 3D drawings using Siemens NX, verify designs via simulations, and support lifecycle phases from concept to maintenance.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical systems, CAD modelling, and teamwork. Eligibility for a Secret clearance is essential, with relocation assistance possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field with 5 years of relevant experience (Sr. Principal level requires a Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s with 6 years of experience)
• Requires U.S. Citizenship with an Active Secret Security Clearance or higher
• Requires the ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval within a reasonable period of time
• Requires a minimum 5 years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred)
• Requires a minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering that includes a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred)
• Requires experience with ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program
• Develop CAD models and 3D drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center
• Verify specifications and designs through modeling, simulation, and analysis
• Support all phases of the systems lifecycle from design to maintenance
• Perform sizing analysis for stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures
• Prepare reports and interface with customers
• Attend meetings and present design status during reviews
• Assist IPT lead in managing team schedule and mentoring engineers

Roles And Responsibilities

• Primary role is to serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program
• Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and associated ground and test equipment
• Develop CAD models and 3D model based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center
• Verify specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis
• Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance
• Design of components/systems, and preliminary/sizing analysis for both stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures.
• Preparation and presentation of reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interface with customers.
• Attend internal program meetings, customer technical exchanges, and supplier briefings; present design status during formal milestone reviews
• Assisting IPT lead in managing team schedule and mentoring junior engineers in mechanical design

Basic Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field with 5 years of relevant experience (Sr. Principal level requires a Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience; or a Master's with 6 years of experience)
• Requires U.S. Citizenship with an Active Secret Security Clearance or higher
• Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
• Requires a minimum 5 years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred)
• Requires a minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering that includes a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred)
• Requires experience with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes
• Demonstrated ability to lead design teams and drive technical decisions
• Experience with Team Center (CPLM) and the Product Definition Package (PDP) release process
• Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
• Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
• Experience with ICBMs or launch equipment systems
• Experience performing dynamic and static analysis (NX Motion or ANSYS preferred)
• Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira and Confluence
• Experience in managing or leading an interdisciplinary engineering team from concept creation through test and verification
• Experience as a Control Account Management (CAM)
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
