Overview
DOWNDOG club focuses on holistic wellness with Yoga as the core offering. The club blends intentional movement with restorative recovery experiences for mind and body, providing group sessions and private sessions with a focus on personal attention and well-being.
Responsibilities and expectations for instructors include delivering personalized care, assessing members, and guiding safe and engaging yoga and related movement sessions. The role emphasizes a non-corporate, empathetic teaching style and community building.
Yoga Instructor Role
- Ability to teach different styles of Yoga (Hatha, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Bikram, Baptiste, Yin, Jivamukti, Prenatal/Postnatal, Restorative, etc.) across different age groups and demographics. Specialize in one to three styles.
- Personally assess Members to determine proficiency and design yoga sequences to meet their needs.
- Maintain strong work ethic and ongoing self-motivation to support Members’ progress.
- Be internally driven, self-managed, and disciplined; flexible to create customized sequences while following company safety, engagement, and best-practice guidelines.
- Assist students with breathing techniques and alignments.
- Take full ownership of Members’ well-being and their yoga journey.
- Work in a flat organization with a personal, interactive approach rather than a corporate, ego-driven style.
- Communicate fluently in Hindi and English; witty and curious mindset; knowledge of other languages is a plus.
- Make teaching fun, help Members relax, sweat, and feel a sense of calm accomplishment at the end of sessions.
- Personal follow-up with each Member is mandatory.
- Respect and courtesy for every person within the club.
Educational Qualifications and Teaching Experience:
- At least a Bachelor's degree; a Master’s in Yoga is preferred from a credible local or international university.
- Minimum 500 hours of Yoga Teacher Training with credible experience; online teaching to local or international clients does not count.
- Professional certification from globally recognized teachers (e.g., R. Sharath Jois, Bikram Choudhury, Dharma Mitra, BKS Iyengar, Kathryn Budig, Kino MacGregor, Shiva Rea, Jason Crandell, Baron Baptiste, and others).
- Experience conducting teacher training globally; online teacher training will not be considered.
- Ability to bring creativity, anatomical knowledge, and Pilates session integration when relevant.
- Engage clients, set goals, and monitor progress.
Pilates Instructor Role
- Bring creativity, consistency, and anatomical expertise to Mat Pilates sessions (e.g., full-body, upper/lower body, core strength, mobility).
- Engage clients, set goals, and monitor progress.
- Assess posture and physical ability to align sessions with needs.
- Conduct engaging Pilates sessions privately and in groups; provide hands-on adjustments and modifications.
- Maintain safety protocols, proper use of props, and injury prevention.
- Collect feedback to maintain instructional excellence; ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating atmosphere.
- Collaborate with management on operational challenges and ensure equipment is well-maintained.
- Mentor newer instructors and foster collaboration.
Ideal Profile
- Mat Pilates certification and modern Pilates method credentials; strong anatomical knowledge; ability to offer modifications and progressions.
- Full-time availability preferred; minimum 1000 hours of Pilates teaching experience.
- Experience with private and group Mat Pilates sessions; fluency in English; other languages are a plus.
- Ability to work with physically complex clients and use various functional equipment (foam rollers, Pilates balls, bands, straps, blocks).
- Effective communication with empathy and sensitivity; a genuine passion for improving others’ health; proactive in meeting member expectations.
- Degree in any field; a degree in Physical Therapy is an advantage.
