Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans for battery packs per requirements and standards.
• Design ALT methods to predict lifespan and failure modes.
• Run reliability tests: temperature cycling, vibration, shock, IP, cycle life, ESS.
• Set up and troubleshoot battery reliability testing equipment and data systems.
• Analyze large reliability datasets using statistical methods and Python/LabVIEW.
• Develop models for lifespan and failure rate predictions.
• Perform root-cause analysis on test failures and document results.
• Collaborate with design, development, and validation teams to address reliability concerns.

About the Team and the Role

The Product Validation, Testing CoC team at Ather is responsible for ensuring product performance, durability, and reliability across all vehicle systems and components.

This role is for a Senior Test Engineer – Battery (E&E Reliability) focused on developing, executing, and analyzing comprehensive battery reliability testing to evaluate lifespan, diagnose failure mechanisms, and drive design optimizations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures for battery packs based on product requirements, industry standards, and internal specifications.
• Design and implement accelerated life testing (ALT) methodologies to predict battery lifespan and identify potential failure mechanisms within a compressed timeframe.
• Execute a wide range of reliability tests including temperature cycling, vibration, shock, IP, cycle life, long-term storage, ESS, and abuse testing.
• Set up, operate, and troubleshoot specialized battery reliability testing equipment and data acquisition systems.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret large datasets from reliability tests using statistical methods and tools such as Weibull analysis and Python.
• Develop reliability models and predictions for battery lifespan and failure rates.
• Conduct thorough root cause failure analysis on batteries failing during testing and document clear test plans, procedures, and reports.
• Collaborate closely with battery design, development, and validation teams to provide feedback on potential reliability concerns and recommend design improvements.

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• 6-9 years of experience in battery testing and validation

Must Have Competencies

• Battery electrochemistry, performance characterization, and failure mechanism analysis
• Accelerated life testing (ALT) methodology, setup, and execution for battery reliability
• Operation, configuration, and troubleshooting of specialized battery testing hardware and data acquisition systems
• Statistical data analysis, reliability modeling, and failure prediction using tools like Weibull analysis, Python, or LabVIEW

Good to Have Competencies

• Environmental stress screening (ESS) and battery abuse testing protocols
• Predictive lifespan modeling and failure rate forecasting for high-voltage battery packs
• Scripting for automated test setup and data process automation using Python or Excel
• Application of international battery safety regulations, compliance standards, and laboratory safety protocols
