Job summary

Ramboll India Pvt Ltd in Chennai seeks a Senior Technical Lead for PHE within high-rise and complex building projects. You will lead project teams across Ramboll’s offices, guiding design across mechanical, piping and layout disciplines while ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

Strong background in PHE systems, building services, and BIM/digitalization is required, with extensive experience in client-facing communications and project leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Chartered membership of an internationally recognized professional body preferred (e.g. CIBSE).
• Minimum design experience in building services and PHE systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide project and technical leadership across Ramboll’s Plant Design discipline.
• Lead teams, manage design documentation and QA/QC processes.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, clients and project managers.

To succeed in this role, you must possess a strong technical background in industry engineering (Process, Chemical, Petrochemical, etc.), extensive experience as a Piping and Layout specialist, and the ability to lead project teams across Ramboll’s offices and geographies within the Plant Design discipline.

Job Description Responsibilities

Project and technical leadership. Team management Training and development Developing and guiding engineers and/or design team. Applying policies relating to health & safety, quality, and training Awareness of all design stages and requirements To act as MEP Project Manager/Design Manager on selected projects by managing the successful delivery of high quality multi and single disciplinary projects Project manage and supervise teams to successfully deliver high quality discipline projects in accordance with corporate and client requirements Develop a thorough design philosophy, effectively contributing to the inception, development and detailed delivery of projects across all design stages. Undertake regular reviews of all key projects within own area of responsibility and proactively engage with clients and partners to gather feedback and deliver service improvement initiatives. Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation in accordance with QA/QC review processes Attend external meetings and prepare design presentations and design reports. Input into business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions. Coordinate and liaise with all other design team members, including architects and structural engineers plus client, project managers and QS. Have a good knowledge of buildability, construction techniques, procurement routes, risk assessment and claim assessment. Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment. Strong attention to detail, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills. Understanding of the financial and commercial management of projects. Provide technical support to respond to prequalification documents, RFPs and other client inquiries. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or masters degree. in Mechanical Engineering
• Preferably a Chartered member of an internationally recognized professional body (e.g. CIBSE,)

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 17 years’ design experience, 7 years’ experience in Middle East or Middle eastern projects is preferable.
• Proven track record in building services design with different types of sectors, including high rise, commercial, residential, retail, Healthcare, Industrial, refurbishment, etc; Proven record as a Project Engineer/Lead Engineer on several projects.
• Experienced at: Presenting to clients Attending demanding client meetings Preparing project proposals for agreement Planning and management of resources Planning and execution of projects Coordination with other designers and stakeholders

TECHNICAL SKILLS / KNOWLEGDE

• Proven ability to carry out both manual and computer aided calculations, problem solving, technical and financial analyses, etc.
• Detailed knowledge of design software such as HASS, Elite etc
• Adequate knowledge of BIM / digitalization techniques and standards
• Strong software capability and proficiency in BIM360, AutoCAD and Navisworks, Detailed knowledge of local and international design standards, BSEN, ASHRAE, NFPA, etc
• Full knowledge of local statutory authorities’ regulations and submission requirements in the middle east.
• Advanced knowledge of design Principles of all PHE systems and market knowledge Maintain and participate in CPD events to develop own expertise.
