Job summary

Alkami India in Gurugram seeks a visionary, hands-on engineering leader to coordinate across Engineering, Quality Engineering, SRE, Release Management, Product, and Architecture. You will mentor TEMs and engineers, shape roadmaps, and own complex technical issues with high-impact outcomes.

You will drive architectural design, ensure system resilience, lead performance metrics, and partner with Product to balance speed and quality in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Architecting and delivering scalable, fault-tolerant SaaS software with modern microservice architectures across multiple cloud providers.
• Operational excellence across the lifecycle: CI/CD, automated testing, observability.
• Experience building enterprise-grade RBAC and entitlement systems.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Engineering to deliver functional requirements per specs.

A highly influential and strategic cross-functional leader, this autonomous position involves coordinating and driving initiatives across various teams and departments (Engineering, Quality Engineering, SRE, Release Management, Product, Architecture, TPMs) to ensure the high-quality delivery of software solutions that align with long‑term business objectives. This individual is a visionary with a strong technical aptitude, a deep hands‑on software development background, exceptional problem‑solving skills, and acts as a critical enabler for a complex system with numerous moving parts, ensuring seamless and efficient operation. This innovative leader not only coaches and mentors their direct reports but also plays a pivotal role in shaping the professional growth and development of engineers across the broader organization. They cultivate a collaborative, engaging, fast‑paced, and results‑oriented environment, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. This person is deeply engaged with their teams, responsible for evaluating individual and team performance metrics to maximize overall engineering efficiency and impact. They are adept at driving high‑level technical discussions, triaging complex issues, conducting in‑depth research, and leading root cause analysis for critical incidents.

• Working with Product Engineering teams to deliver functional requirements and ensure features are built to specifications
• Hands‑On Contribution (~20%): Maintain a significant hands‑on contribution, including architecting and reviewing complex code, debugging critical issues, designing and evolving highly scalable APIs, and delivering robust platform services.
• May lead, mentor, and develop one to two Technical Engineering Managers (TEMs) and their teams.
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of software engineers, providing advanced guidance, strategic support, and comprehensive feedback to foster their accelerated professional growth and leadership development.
• Build architecture design, ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems, influence product roadmap, introduce new technologies and take ownership and responsibility over new projects.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Lead and strengthen partnerships with Product, Security, Architecture, and Operations leadership to ensure engineering execution is tightly integrated with strategic business outcomes.
• Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and address organizational bottlenecks, strategically reduce technical debt, and drive initiatives to enhance scalability, resilience, and cost‑efficiency across the engineering organization.
• Delivery & Engineering Excellence: Define and track KPIs (deployment frequency, MTTR, test coverage, SLA adherence); balance speed with quality, improve and maintain the team’s Say/Do ratio by managing resource allocation, workload distribution, and project priorities to ensure timely delivery of high‑quality software solutions.
• Maintain a deep understanding of software development technologies, trends, and best practices and provide technical guidance and expertise to the team.
• Oversee and manage on‑call incidents, including troubleshooting and resolving critical disruptions to ensure minimal downtime around the functionality of your team.
• Drive the adoption of modern development practices, tools, and frameworks to improve productivity and product quality.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning within the team.
• Champion innovation and experimentation, encouraging team members to explore new technologies and approaches to solving complex problems.
• Working with Product Management to collaborate through creative brainstorming sessions and assist in writing requirements for technical debt
• Expertly report on accomplishments, strategic goals, critical issues, and deliverable statuses to effectively manage and influence executive stakeholder expectations.
• Establishment of performance goals for all direct reports
• Continuing education with regards to management philosophies, knowledge of the banking industry, as well as applications that will be specific to segments of our client base

Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications

Required

• Demonstrated expertise in architecting and delivering highly scalable, fault‑tolerant SaaS‑based software with modern system architectures, including advanced microservice‑based architecture and cloud‑native applications across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
• Deep understanding and proven ability to drive operational excellence initiatives throughout the development lifecycle, including advanced Dev/Ops practices, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), sophisticated automated testing strategies, and comprehensive observability frameworks.
• Experience with Observability tools like Grafana, Newrelic, Haystack etc
• Extensive experience with real‑time and batch processing of extremely high‑volume transactions, and a proven track record of building complex, enterprise‑grade role‑based access and entitlement systems.
• Exceptional proficiency in making data‑driven strategic decisions, evaluating complex trade‐offs, and prioritizing initiatives to optimize resource allocation and achieve maximum business impact.
• Experience in building scalable systems that are operationally efficient
• Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating cross‑functional teams towards achieving shared objectives. This includes setting clear expectations, providing guidance, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work culture.
• Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders and groups in the organization
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to address technical challenges and overcome obstacles. This includes troubleshooting complex issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
• Extensive experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing large, geographically distributed teams of Software Engineers, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement across multiple time zones.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, product management, and other technical teams to define requirements, articulate complex technical designs, and drive product strategy.
• Experience in Lean‑Agile development methodologies such as Kanban or Scrum

Preferred

• Experience in fintech, digital banking, or other highly regulated industries
• Experience working with SaaS offerings in the technology and financial industries
• Knowledge of treasury management, cash positioning, liquidity management, commercial payments (ACH, wires), and reconciliation.
• Familiarity with banking data formats such as ISO 20022, BAI2, MT940, and EDI 820

Recommended Experience & Education

Minimum Years of Experience

• 18+ years of experience in software development or similar engineering fields.
• 8+ years in managing engineering teams, with a proven track record of leading senior individual contributors and managers.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
