Appian is seeking a Senior Technical Consultant in Chennai to lead hands-on engineering, system design, and integration execution for AI-powered process automation. You will build low-latency integrations, optimize databases, and diagnose performance bottlenecks, focusing on scalable platform architecture and high-quality software delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or Mathematics.
• 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years in enterprise web app development, delivery, and deployment.
• Agile Software Delivery experience.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with working knowledge of JavaScript or Java.
• Experience designing relational data models (SQL Server/Oracle/MariaDB) and custom APIs.
• Knowledge of web app infra, containerization with Kubernetes, DevSecOps, test automation (Selenium).

Responsibilities

• Implement scalable platform architecture with high performance and reusable schemas.
• Design, code, and unit test integrations using SQL views, stored procedures, and APIs.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, memory, CPU, and network latency across the stack.
• Profile and analyze database execution plans, logs, and load tests to identify root causes.
• Ensure CI/CD quality with automated tests and clean coding standards.

Senior Technical Consultant – AI-Powered Process Automation

About the Team

Our Chennai-based Customer Success team serves as an elite engineering hub for global enterprises. We specialize in platform architecture, delivering scalable, high-throughput environments that utilize AI-Powered Process Automation to resolve mission-critical operational bottlenecks.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Technical Consultant, you will focus directly on core hands-on engineering, system design, and technical integration execution. Top technical talent joins Appian in this role to maintain individual contributor focus on complex architectures—building low-latency integrations, optimizing database schemas, and diagnosing deep performance bottlenecks without heavy people-management overhead.

What You’ll Do

• Implement Scalable Platform Architecture: Build and maintain standards and tools to ensure high performance and resilience with a focus on reusability, schema design, data modeling, query performance, and responsive UX/UI best practices.
• Engineered Integrations: Perform hands-on design, code implementation, and unit testing using SQL views, stored procedures, and high-concurrency REST/SOAP web services/APIs.
• System-Level Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnose performance bottlenecks, memory usage, CPU constraints, and network latency spikes across the web application stack.
• Performance Profiling & Analysis: Analyze database execution plans, system logs, and Locust load test outputs to isolate and resolve root-cause performance bottlenecks.
• Technical Quality & Enablement: Ensure continuous integration and delivery alignment by applying strong DevSecOps practices, robust automated testing, and clean coding standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or Mathematics.
• 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years of specialized experience in enterprise web application development, delivery, and deployment.
• Agile Software Delivery: Proven hands-on experience developing, configuring, testing, and deploying enterprise-grade software applications in an agile delivery environment.
• Core Engineering Stack: Deep technical expertise in Python and SQL, supplemented by working knowledge of JavaScript or Java.
• Data & Middleware Architecture: Strong experience designing relational data models (SQL Server, Oracle, or MariaDB), custom APIs, and middleware/ESB orchestration layers.
• Infrastructure & Testing: Practical experience with web application infrastructure, containerization using Kubernetes, DevSecOps concepts, test automation tools (Selenium), and performance/load testing methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating within high-velocity, cross-functional engineering teams.
• Hands-on exposure to modern Generative AI integrations, LLM application pipelines, or vector databases.
• Ecosystem Experience: We value experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or ServiceNow, as these skills translate well into our Enterprise-Grade Orchestration environment.
