Senior/Staff Software Development Engineer in Test

Full‑time position at Hortonworks, an industry‑leading innovator that creates, distributes, and supports enterprise‑ready open data platforms and modern data applications.

Job Summary

An ideal candidate is a hands‑on developer proficient in Java or Python with a strong testing mindset. The role involves engaging with large‑scale distributed systems, requiring knowledge of data structures, algorithms, OOP, design patterns, and test automation framework design and development.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to engineering efforts from planning and organization to execution and delivery to solve complex engineering problems in quality and development.
• Design and build the advanced automated testing framework, tools, and automated test suites in Python (pytest), Shell, Java (TestNG/JUnit), and Linux.
• Create test cases and test plans, with experience in data replication, data processing, and data protection.
• Leverage experience in cost‑based query optimization, join planning, and query access paths, as well as database internals and QE workflows.
• Build, enhance, and maintain automation frameworks for scalability, stability, and performance.
• Define the optimum suites for sanity, regression, smoke, deployment verification, and advanced aspects of system testing automation.
