JioStar is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer for the Video Engineering team to build and scale next-generation media infrastructure. You will drive codec optimization, AI-driven quality assessment, and high-performance streaming to support millions of users globally.

The role involves defining technical direction, architecture, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality streaming experiences.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in multimedia software development with strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Expert proficiency in C++ or Java with solid object-oriented programming fundamentals.
• Deep understanding of audio and video compression and processing: H.264/AVC, HEVC, AV1; Dolby Vision, HDR10+; AAC, HE-AAC, EAC-3, Dolby Atmos (AC-4); 360VR, 3D video.
• Strong background in image and signal processing including algorithm design and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of video processing & ad insertion software integrated with the Hotstar media pipelines
• Architect solutions for quality, robustness, and scale handling massive video content volumes
• Innovate and prototype emerging media technologies (AI-driven quality assessment, dynamic bitrate optimization)
• Design and implement algorithms for encoding efficiency augmentation with video intelligence capabilities
• Build automated video quality control systems for incoming content and encoded streams
• Drive technical implementation of media features in live streaming workflows with observability and resiliency
• Champion support for state-of-the-art media features on the platform, ensuring delightful user experience
• Collaborate with research and product teams to evaluate and integrate next-generation video technologies

Skills & Attributes for success:

• 9+ years of experience in multimedia software development with excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
• Expert proficiency in C++ or Java with strong object-oriented programming fundamentals
• Deep understanding of audio and video compression and processing, including:
• Video codec standards: H.264/AVC, HEVC, AV1
• HDR standards: Dolby Vision, HDR10+
• Audio codecs: AAC, HE-AAC, EAC-3, Dolby Atmos (AC-4)
• Immersive formats: 360VR, 3D video
• Strong background in image and signal processing including algorithm design and implementation

Preferred Education & Experience:

• B-Tech or M-Tech in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from a reputed university.
• 9-12 years of progressive experience in software development, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects on time.
