Overview
This lead engineering position provides an opportunity to drive 5G/5G‑Adv/LTE systems performance characterization and optimization, support over‑the‑air (OTA) field trials of new features, work closely with wireless operators, infrastructure vendors and R&D teams on cutting‑edge wireless technologies such as NTN, 6G and ISAC, and collaborate on design, optimization, capacity estimation and debugging of air‑interface and core‑network issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 6+ years of Systems Engineering or related experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 5+ years of Systems Engineering or related experience.
- PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related experience.
- Flexibility to travel up to 30% both domestic and international.
- Excellent communication, presentation and customer management skills.
- Ability to coordinate and work across multiple Qualcomm teams and customers.
- Bachelor’s degree in ECE with senior focus in Wireless Communication Systems and 15+ years of deep technical depth in 3GPP technology and end‑to‑end 5G‑Adv/5G/4G network performance analysis and optimization.
Responsibilities
- Lead interactions with wireless operators to investigate and characterize performance of 6G/5G‑Adv/5G/LTE networks across various aspects ranging from satellite networks, core/transport networks, air interface, NTN‑TN mobility aspects, to devices and applications.
- Lead and contribute to projects in advanced topics such as ISAC, NTN, ORAN/vRAN, private networks, fixed wireless access, small cells and more.
- Handle and guide large performance data analysis for logs/traces collected across key network elements and probes deployed in 6G/5G‑Adv/5G/LTE networks.
- Perform RF and OTA parametric optimization and troubleshooting using complex data collection and post‑processing tools to assess network performance and propose solutions.
- Conduct RF network planning including propagation model calibration, link budget definition, network planning tool configuration, coverage and capacity planning, and network growth dimensioning.
- Use handset and network infrastructure‑based advanced tools to accurately measure existing and potential network performance.
- Use in‑house simulation platforms written in C/C++/MATLAB with live network traffic data and develop solutions to improve network performance and efficiency.
- Support development of forward‑looking solutions to address network operator growth and expansion plans covering all network entities, including 6G/ISAC/NTN trials, fine‑tuning features, rollout, and commercialization.
- Develop white papers, conference contributions, technical memos, new technology training documents, and detailed technical presentations.
- Present complex technical ideas and results to multi‑level, multi‑disciplinary internal and external audiences.
- Use data analytics and machine learning techniques to enhance new services and develop solutions.
- Focus on wireless system performance, network parameter optimization, new wireless technology standards, and analysis of wireless network/device issues.
- Manage cloud ML model architecture and data pipelines: identify objectives, select and develop models, verify data quality, train models, analyze errors, design strategies, and deploy to production.
Wireless Networks / Technology Skills
- In‑depth understanding and hands‑on experience on Cellular (5G NR, 5G‑Adv, LTE) PHY/MAC and upper layers.
- Deep expertise of 5G and LTE networks performance assessment and optimization on major RAN infrastructure vendors.
- Excellent knowledge of 3GPP protocol standards, design, development, integration and verification, call processing of cellular (6G/5G‑Adv/5G/LTE) systems.
- Expertise in mobile networks architecture, design, planning, measurement and optimization tools such as Atoll, Asset3G, iBwave, QXDM, DATUM, Accuver, TEMS, Ethereal, Actix, Agilent, R&S, Spirent, PCtel.
- Academic coursework in Digital Communications, Mobile Communications, Satellite Networks, Communication Theory/Systems, Error Correcting Codes, Computer networks (TCP/IP), Probability theory, Random processes, Linear Algebra, DSP, MIMO techniques.
- Experience with data services protocols such as RTP/TCP/UDP/IP.
- Academic projects and research in digital communications, satellite, wireless or computer networks including technical conference paper submissions.
- Proficiency with Python and basic libraries for machine learning.
Machine Learning and Programming Skills
- Hands‑on experience with LLM tools and agents (e.g., Claude, Cline) and understanding of ML Ops / AI Ops (model lifecycle, deployment, monitoring).
- Proficiency in Python and ML libraries (NumPy, Pandas, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Experience with prompt engineering and LLM‑based workflows.
- Familiarity with APIs, automation and tool integration.
- Understanding of data pipelines and experimentation workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
