Job summary

Equinix Incubation, a long-term innovation capability within Equinix, seeks a Senior Staff Engineer to build GravityX and the AI agents powering it. You will design, implement, evaluate, and operate production-grade AI agents that perform real software delivery work, trusted by engineering teams globally.

You will drive architecture, tool integrations, and governance controls while mentoring engineers across teams, shaping standards and platform direction for AI-enabled software delivery.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications, AI agents, retrieval systems, tool-calling architectures, or multi-agent workflows.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Build LLM-powered agents that support requirements, design, coding, testing, release, and operations.

GravityX orchestrates specialized AI agents across the software delivery lifecycle, from intake and planning to design, development, testing, release, and value tracking. About the Role

We are seeking Senior Staff Engineer to help build GravityX and the AI agents that power it.

This role goes beyond using AI to increase developer productivity. You will design, build, evaluate, and operate production-grade AI agents that perform real software delivery work and are trusted by engineering teams across the organization.

You will:

• Build LLM-powered agents that support requirements, design, coding, testing, release, and operations.
• Develop agent orchestration capabilities, tool integrations, and multi-agent workflows.
• Design evaluation frameworks, guardrails, and governance controls that make AI systems reliable and trustworthy.
• Build retrieval and knowledge systems that provide agents with the context they need to perform effectively.
• Contribute to platform capabilities including orchestration, observability, auditability, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Drive engineering excellence through strong architecture, testing, automation, and operational practices.

For Senior Staff Engineers, the role also includes defining standards, influencing platform direction, solving highly ambiguous technical challenges, and mentoring engineers across teams.

About You

You are an experienced software engineer with a passion for building intelligent systems and solving complex problems at scale. You combine strong engineering fundamentals with a practical understanding of how AI can be applied responsibly in enterprise environments.

We're looking for someone who has:

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications, AI agents, retrieval systems, tool-calling architectures, or multi-agent workflows.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript.
• Experience building APIs, microservices, cloud-native applications, and event-driven systems.
• A strong testing mindset and an interest in designing evaluation frameworks for AI systems.
• Experience with modern engineering practices including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and production operations.
• Sound judgment about when automation should act independently and when human oversight is required.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.
• Experience with technologies such as MCP, A2A, LangGraph, OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, Vertex AI, Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow, retrieval systems, embeddings, and enterprise AI governance is highly desirable.
