Job summary
Vodafone VOIS is seeking an experienced Senior Solutions Architect focused on Life and Funeral Insurance with cloud-native platforms. You will define end-to-end architectures for onboarding, policy administration, premium collection, servicing, and claims, ensuring security, scalability, and regulatory compliance.
You will lead multiple agile delivery teams, drive API-first and microservices approaches, and partner with engineering, security, risk, and business teams to deliver future-ready
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5–10+ years of software engineering and solution architecture.
- 5+ years designing enterprise-scale cloud-native solutions.
- Experience in life/ Funeral insurance or regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of Life and Funeral Insurance products and policy administration.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
- Experience designing cloud architectures, preferably on AWS.
- Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect – Professional, TOGAF, SAFe for Architects (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end solution architectures for Life and Funeral Insurance initiatives.
- Produce High-Level Designs and architecture documentation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate strategy into tech solutions.
- Provide technical leadership across agile squads and teams.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native, API-first, microservices and event-driven approaches.
- Ensure scalability, resilience, performance, observability, availability, and security.
- Lead architecture reviews and governance activities.
- Design and govern integrations across policy administration, CRM, payments, identity, and channels.
- Partner with engineering, operations, security, risk, compliance, and business teams.
- Apply FinOps to optimise cloud investments.
- Ensure AML/KYC/POPIA/privacy-by-design compliance.
- Support SAFe delivery and releases.

We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect with deep expertise in Life and Funeral Insurance, cloud-native architecture, and regulated financial services environments. This role is responsible for defining and governing end-to-end technology solutions that support insurance products and operations across customer onboarding, policy administration, premium collection, servicing, and claims.
The successful candidate will provide architectural leadership across multiple agile delivery teams, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards. This role combines strategic thinking, hands‑on technical architecture, stakeholder engagement, and insurance domain expertise to deliver future‑ready digital insurance platforms.
Key focus areas include cloud-native architecture, API‑first design, microservices, event‑driven systems, integration architecture, security‑by‑design, observability, and regulatory compliance within the insurance domain.
- Design end-to-end solution architectures for Life and Funeral Insurance initiatives, balancing business objectives, technology strategy, cost efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
- Produce High-Level Designs (HLDs), detailed solution designs, architecture decision records, integration designs, and supporting architectural documentation.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements, define solution options, and translate strategy into implementable technology solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across multiple agile squads and delivery teams.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native, API‑first, microservices, and event‑driven architectural approaches.
- Ensure solutions meet key non‑functional requirements including scalability, resilience, performance, observability, availability, and security.
- Lead architecture reviews, governance processes, technology assessments, and design assurance activities.
- Design and govern integrations across policy administration platforms, CRM systems, payment solutions, identity services, and customer engagement channels.
- Partner with engineering, operations, security, risk, compliance, and business teams as a trusted technology advisor.
- Apply FinOps principles to optimise cloud investments and support platform modernisation initiatives.
- Ensure architecture aligns with compliance obligations such as AML, KYC, CDD, EDD, sanctions screening, PEP screening, FICA, POPIA, fraud prevention, audit requirements, and privacy‑by‑design principles.
- Support agile and SAFe delivery practices by providing architectural direction and delivery readiness across releases and programmes.
- Leverage AI‑assisted architecture tools responsibly to accelerate analysis, design exploration, and documentation activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5–10+ years of experience across software engineering and solution architecture.
- 5+ years of experience designing enterprise‑scale cloud‑native solutions.
- Demonstrated experience within insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong expertise in Life and Funeral Insurance products, policy administration, customer journeys, premium collection, servicing, claims, and domain integrations.
- Proven ability to engage with both executive stakeholders and technical delivery teams.
- Experience designing cloud architectures, preferably on AWS.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Microservices architecture
- Event‑driven architecture
- REST APIs and API management
- Kafka, SNS/SQS, RabbitMQ, or equivalent messaging technologies
- Oracle, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases
- OAuth2, OpenID Connect, IAM, and security architecture
- Observability platforms including CloudWatch, Grafana, ELK, and Dynatrace
- CI/CD practices and architecture governance
- Agile and ideally SAFe frameworks
- Excellent communication, collaboration, stakeholder management, strategic thinking, problem‑solving, mentoring, and decision‑making skills.
- Preferred certifications:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- TOGAF
- SAFe for Architects or equivalent certification
