Job summary

NielsenIQ is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in Pune to design, build and operate scalable backend services in Java and Node.js, using Kafka, MySQL/MongoDB, Docker and Kubernetes.

You will collaborate with product, DevOps and frontend teams, follow best practices, track work in Jira, and contribute to serverless and CI/CD discussions. This role emphasizes distributed systems and cloud-native architectures across global hubs.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of overall experience in backend engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and best practices.
• Proficient with Node.js and modern backend frameworks.
• Experience with MySQL or other RDBMS and MongoDB or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems, plus Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with version control and collaborative workflows (Git, Jira).
• Understanding of distributed systems and microservices.

Qualifications

• Overall 7+ years of experience.
• Strong experience with Java (and best practices)
• Strong experience with Node.js (and best practices)
• Proficient with MySQL or other RDBMS
• Proficient with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
• Experience with Kafka or other event streaming / message broker technologies
• Experience with Docker and containerization
• Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration
• Proficient with version control systems, such as Git
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a global team

It's a plus if you also have

• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
• Experience with Spinnaker for continuous delivery
• Understanding of CICD, such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions
• Familiarity with GitLab and GitHub
• Familiarity with Scrum development and tools, such as Jira
• Experience with Serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, etc.)
• Knowledge of API design and REST best practices
• Experience with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing)
