American Express is seeking a Sr Software Engineer II in India to lead the full software development lifecycle, ensuring technical excellence and best practices. You will mentor junior engineers, guide cross-functional teams, and drive scalable, reliable software delivery from inception through deployment.

The role emphasizes collaboration with product and business teams, cloud familiarity, and strong problem-solving abilities to sustain high-quality systems in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on Java-based application development.
• Proven experience building and maintaining distributed, scalable, multi-tier applications.
• Experience in application design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Experience working in cloud environments and modern software delivery practices is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and deliver scalable solutions.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality practices, and DevOps principles.
• Experience with unit, integration, functional, and performance testing.
• Knowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, NoSQL, and relational databases
• Knowledge of the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)
• Basic Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of event streaming platforms such as Kafka is a plus
