Job summary

StarTree in India is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Cloud Platform to own end-to-end development of features in the cloud control plane and data plane. You will work on scalable services and manage substantial Kubernetes workloads across major cloud providers.

The role emphasizes collaboration with partner teams, mentoring engineers, and an AI-first mindset to continuously improve the platform. Proficiency in Go or Java is valued, with emphasis on distributed systems at scale.

About the Team:

The Cloud Platform team builds and operates StarTree Cloud — the resilient, auto-scaling platform that makes Apache Pinot available as a fully managed service. We use a single control plane to run and manage hundreds of fully automated Pinot clusters in production, spanning SaaS, BYOC and BYOK deployments across AWS, GCP and Azure.

The Cloud platform team is lean, fast-paced, and innovative, working with state-of-the-art technology while focusing on solving complex challenges at scale.

In this role, you will:

• Own the end-to-end development of features in the cloud control plane and data plane platform services, starting from idea to production launch
• Manage substantial Kubernetes workloads that span across all major cloud providers
• Collaborate with strong engineering and partner teams to deliver effective and scalable solutions for customers
• Mentor and grow engineers while learning from the experienced engineers around you

Skills & Experience

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience solving distributed systems problems at scale. Our services are primarily written in either Go or Java. Go experience would be preferred, not a hard requirement.
• Experience building cloud-based deployments, with working knowledge of container orchestration and infrastructure-as-code (Kubernetes, Terraform etc).
• Adaptability and versatility — willing to take on whatever matters most for the company and adjust to changing priorities of the business
• Curiosity, positivity, and resilience — comfortable navigating ambiguity and uncertainty while maintaining a constructive, problem-solving mindset.
• AI-first mindset - Comfortable developing with AI tools and eager to continuously learn and integrate AI into our engineering processes
• Open source contributions and / or blog posts are a plus
