Job summary

Charles River Development, part of State Street, is seeking senior software engineers to drive technical excellence across complex financial systems. You will design, implement, and test large-scale software, mentor teams, and lead agile practices in a fast-paced environment.

Applicants should have extensive OO experience, strong communication, and a track record in financial services technology. Hybrid work options may be available with State Street backing.

Qualifications

• 13+ years of progressively responsible software engineering experience.
• Experience in financial services: Portfolio Management, Trading, Compliance or Wealth Management preferred.
• Strong OO design, high-performance systems, and modern software engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, develop, test, and debug large software enhancements and solutions.
• Collaborate with Analysts and Product Managers to create sustainable software solutions.
• Provide architectural guidance and mentor senior engineers.

Job Description

• Drive technical excellence by working independently to analyze, design, develop, test, and debug large and complex software enhancements and solutions within Charles River’s business and technical problem domains including modifications to core frameworks and other primary facilities critical to system operation
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Managers to create simple and sustainable software solutions for complex problems
• Provide thought leadership in the design of product architecture within and beyond the team’s scope of responsibility
• Mentor and coach senior engineers, elevating team capabilities and fostering a culture of technical excellence
• Direct problem solving for projects or major phases of projects to resolve advanced software technical issues
• Develop, test, debug, and implement software programs, applications and projects using Java, C#, SQL, JavaScript, or other related software engineering languages as well as keeping abreast of emerging technologies impactful to CRD’s business
• Provide informed guidance and critical analysis of proposed changes during code reviews
• Write unit and automation tests to ensure a high quality end product
• Identify ways of improving development test methodologies and contribute to related test methodology frameworks
• Establish and uphold quality standards across the development lifecycle to ensure a high quality end product
• Provide expert level troubleshooting on large, mission critical client implementations
• Lead and advance the agile software development process, championing the CRD scrum methodology including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
• Plan and coordinate cross-team activities to complete assignments

Preferred Qualifications And Education

• B.S. degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics or other technical course of study required. MS degree strongly preferred.

Experience

• Experience with the Spring Boot Microservices and familiarity with the service deployment in cloud environments.
• Understanding of microservice architectures and Kubernetes
• Knowledge and experience working with Kafka and message-based systems
• A minimum of 13 years of progressively responsible professional software engineering experience
• Ideally, a minimum of 6 years of experience in financial services developing solutions for Portfolio Management, Trading, Compliance, Post-Trade, IBOR or Wealth Management is strongly desired
• Deep expertise in object-oriented programming, relational databases (RDBMS), low-latency and high-performance systems, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software engineering practices
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software delivery and improve code quality
• Demonstrated problem solving abilities involving multi-tiered, high-performance database applications
• Demonstrated ability to design and develop simple software solutions to business and technical problems of high complexity
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Able to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment
• A minimum of 5 years working with an Agile development methodology
