Job summary

Gartner IT is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Product Delivery Organization. You’ll develop and maintain web-based applications that engage clients and boost internal productivity in an Agile/Scrum setting.

You’ll collaborate with Product and Design teams, define end-to-end solutions, review code, and optimize performance and scalability while contributing to testing strategies and UI/UX improvements. This role demands Java/Spring expertise and a strong foundation in REST APIs.

Qualifications

About this role:

We’re seeking a well-rounded and motivated Senior Software Engineer (SSE) to join our Product Delivery Organization, responsible for developing and maintaining web-based applications that drive client engagement and internal productivity. You’ll collaborate closely with Product to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions in a fast-paced Agile/Scrum environment.

What you’ll do:

• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to build, test, and ship modern web applications
• Define end-to-end solutions and explore opportunities to improve existing systems
• Participate in code reviews, pair-programming sessions, and technical design discussions
• Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize for speed and scalability
• Contribute ideas to improve development processes, UI/UX, and adoption of new technologies
• Write clean, maintainable code and comprehensive tests (unit, integration, end-to-end)

What you’ll need:

Must have:

• Ability to fluently code in Java, Spring Boot.
• Experience building scalable data models and performing complex relational database queries using SQL.
• Experience with at least one cloud platform (preferably AWS).
• AI-Assisted delivery using Copilot/Amazon Q/Claude.
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices.
• Experience with RESTful API design and development.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast paced Agile/SCRUM environment.
• Contributes to continual improvement by suggesting improvements to user interface, software architecture or new technologies.
• Owns success – Takes responsibility for successful delivery.
• Follows coding standards, builds appropriate unit tests, integration tests and deployment scripts.
• Assists in defining software architectures – Collaborates with leads to explore existing systems, determines areas of opportunities.

Nice to have:

• Experience with front-end technologies such as React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• AWS Services ( IAM, S3, Lambda, SQS, SNS, Step Function, Cloud watch etc)

Who you are

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related engineering field w/experience in software development
• 4‑6 years of experience developing customer facing web applications.
• 4+ years of experience in Java Spring or similar J2EE frameworks.
• Good to have of experience in front-end development using JavaScript, knowledge of various JavaScript libraries and micro frameworks (React, Angular, Backbone), HTML and CSS.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API principles.
• Strong understanding of security best practices.
• Strong experience with unit testing and end-to-end testing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
