Job summary

DAZN in Hyderabad seeks a Senior Software Engineer – Video Playback (Frontend HTML5) to design and deliver living room playback experiences across hybrid Android/WebView platforms. You will optimize ABR, startup time, buffering, and video quality using ExoPlayer and related tech.

You will collaborate with frontend and platform teams to ensure seamless interaction between WebView UI and native playback components, and work with HLS/DASH streaming and Widevine DRM.

Qualifications

• Professional software engineering with a track record delivering consumer-facing apps.
• Strong frontend engineering with HTML5 and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Hands-on ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, and Widevine DRM experience.
• Experience with hybrid apps combining native Android and HTML5/WebView UI.

Responsibilities

Senior Software Engineer – Video Playback (Frontend HTML5)

Role Summary

You will collaborate with subject matter experts and video specialists to design, build, and optimise playback experiences across Android TV devices using a hybrid platform combining native Android (ExoPlayer) and HTML5 WebView-based UI technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement connected / living room devices solutions to enhance network handling, ABR algorithms, and playback resiliency using ExoPlayer/ Shaka and related technologies.
• Optimise playback performance, startup time, buffering behaviour, and video quality across a wide range of connected / living room devices
• Collaborate with frontend and platform teams to ensure seamless interaction between WebView UI and native playback components.
• who is familiar with streaming protocols like HLS/DASH, DRM
• Participate in debugging and resolving complex playback issues across diverse device ecosystems and partner implementations

Required Qualifications:

• Professional software engineering experience with a strong delivery track record in consumer-facing applications
• Strong expertise in frontend engineering HTML5, JS / TS.
• Hands-on experience with ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, and DRM technologies such as Widevine
• Experience working with hybrid applications combining native Android components and HTML5/WebView-based UIs
