Job summary

nference in Bengaluru is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to design and develop cloud-native services and APIs powering AI-driven healthcare products.

You will work with engineers, product managers, researchers, and domain experts to tackle large-scale challenges, advocate for clean code, and own software end-to-end in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
• 4–6 years of backend engineering experience.
• Proficient in Python or Go; Python preferred.
• Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Relational DBs (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) experience.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git workflows, and Agile/Scrum.

Responsibilities

• Own the software development lifecycle from design to deployment and maintenance.
• Build scalable backend services and RESTful APIs for internal platforms.
• Design robust backend systems with reliability and performance focus.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Review code, mentor juniors, and enforce engineering standards.
• Identify bottlenecks and improve performance with caching and concurrency.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems. In this role, you'll design and develop cloud-native services, distributed systems, and APIs that power our AI-driven healthcare products.

You'll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, AI researchers, and domain experts to solve complex technical challenges while delivering software that has a direct impact on healthcare innovation. What You'll Do

• Take ownership of the software development lifecycle, from initial design through deployment and maintenance.
• Build scalable backend services and RESTful APIs that support internal platform capabilities and system integrations.
• Design and implement robust, scalable backend systems with a strong focus on reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions aligned with platform goals.
• Review code, mentor junior engineers, and ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
• Identify and resolve system bottlenecks while optimizing performance through caching, batching, and concurrency improvements.
• Contribute to testing strategies, including unit, integration, and automated testing, to ensure system reliability and prevent regressions.
• Monitor key system metrics such as latency, error rates, and throughput, and continuously improve backend performance.
• Contribute to High-Level Designs (HLDs) and maintain clear architecture and technical documentation.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and engineering planning.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system reliability and observability.
• Drive engineering best practices and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 4–6 years of professional experience in backend engineering, platform engineering, or a related software engineering role.
• Strong proficiency in Python or Go, with Python preferred as the primary backend programming language.
• Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and backend design patterns.
• Strong database skills with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Working knowledge of NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
• Hands-on experience with AWS (or similar cloud platforms), Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven systems, and backend performance optimization.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and system design principles.
• Excellent analytical, debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing and building scalable distributed systems.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with Redis or distributed caching solutions.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
• Experience optimizing highly available, large-scale production systems.
• Exposure to machine learning infrastructure or data-intensive applications.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design discussions.
• Contributions to open-source projects are a plus.
