Introduction to team: Data is central to how Expedia Group operates, serves travelers, and makes decisions. When data is incomplete, inaccurate, delayed, or difficult to interpret, the impact can extend across products, analytics, operations, and customer experiences. The Data Quality Platform team is responsible for building a centralized, scalable, and extensible platform that helps teams proactively understand, validate, and trust their data across batch and streaming datasets. We provide automated profiling, configurable quality rules, data contracts, anomaly detection, incident workflows, alerting, and data health visibility so data producers can identify and resolve issues closer to the source. We focus on building reliable, high-performance, secure, and cost-effective platform services that integrate with data pipelines and analytical systems. Typical technologies include Java, Kotlin, Spring, REST, gRPC, Amazon Web Services, Spark, Kafka, Airflow, and Agentic AI. We encourage experimentation with new technologies, including machine-assisted data quality workflows, while balancing short- and long-term goals and maintaining a high bar for platform quality and operational excellence.
As a Senior SDE, you will set the technical direction for core Data Quality Platform services and drive their design, delivery, and operation end to end. You will be a hands-on technical leader-writing and reviewing code, shaping architecture across data profiling, quality rules, data contracts, anomaly detection, alerting, and data health experiences, and raising the engineering bar for the team. Your work will directly determine how effectively engineering, analytics, and data teams across Expedia Group can trust and act on their data at scale.
In this role, you will: Design, build, and maintain complex, highly available Data Quality Platform services and applications, including robust system design (low-level design), API design (REST/gRPC), and data modeling across batch and streaming domains. Lead end-to-end delivery of features and services-from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization in production-spanning profiling, quality rules, data contracts, anomaly detection, incident workflows, and alerting. Improve technical quality and operational excellence by driving code quality standards, reducing incidents, strengthening observability, and optimizing performance, reliability, and cost of high-throughput data systems. Mentor and guide other engineers, sharing best practices in software engineering, testing, and distributed-systems architecture, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning. Collaborate with product, architecture, data platform teams, and data domain owners to translate business and data-trust problems into scalable technical solutions that can be reused across domains. Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled and machine-assisted capabilities that improve rule authoring, anomaly detection, and issue explanation, applying AI/ML concepts to practical data platform workflows.
