About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to embed directly within a product squad and own end-to-end test strategy for a critical vertical. This is not a siloed QA role — you'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with developers from design through release, shaping testability early, building and maintaining automation, and giving the team confidence to ship fast without compromising quality.

What You’ll Do

• Define and own the end-to-end test strategy for new and existing services, starting from requirements and design through to release sign-off.
• Identify and prioritize P0/P1 critical test scenarios, ensure comprehensive coverage, and drive manual and automated test execution — with a strong emphasis on deep, domain-aware manual testing of complex business workflows, not just scripted checks.
• Design and execute exploratory and manual test cases for data-heavy, multi-step business scenarios (e.g., campaign/order lifecycle, pricing, reconciliation) where domain nuance materially affects correctness.
• Build, maintain, and scale automated test suites (UI, API, and integration) using modern tools such as Cypress, Selenium, Playwright, or REST Assured.
• Partner with developers to get test scenarios automated and integrated into CI/CD pipelines, enabling parallel test execution and fast feedback loops.
• Champion shift-left testing — flag testability and design concerns early, before code reaches production.
• Work as an embedded member of an engineering squad (not a separate QA function), participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and design reviews.
• Reduce test flakiness and continuously improve confidence in continuous testing / CI pipelines.
• Track and report test coverage, release quality metrics, and defect trends to stakeholders.
• Perform root-cause analysis on production issues and feed learnings back into test strategy and automation.
• Mentor engineers on testing best practices and help raise the overall quality bar across the team.

What you’ll bring

• 8+ years of experience in software testing, with strong hands-on exposure to both manual and automation testing (UI, API, and database/backend) — manual testing depth and domain understanding are weighted as a must skill for this role.
• Proven ability to translate business/domain rules into thorough manual test cases and catch edge cases that automation alone would miss, particularly in data- or workflow-heavy systems.
• Proficiency in Java (or another OOP language) and SQL, with solid experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks.
• Hands-on expertise with automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, REST Assured, or Karate, and BDD frameworks like Cucumber.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or equivalent) and working with version control (Git) and issue tracking (JIRA).
• Demonstrated ability to define a test strategy from scratch for a new service or capability, including defining P1 scenario coverage.
• Experience working as an embedded tester within a cross-functional engineering squad, rather than a separate/siloed QA team.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills, with experience performing root-cause analysis on production defects.
• Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum delivery practices.
• Prior experience in a domain-heavy industry (e.g., payments, banking/finance, telecom, insurance, supply chain, or e-commerce) is strongly preferred.

Nice to Have

• Experience with performance/load testing tools (e.g., JMeter).
• Exposure to GenAI-assisted testing — using tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT to accelerate test case design, script generation, or test maintenance.
• Experience building reusable test automation utilities/libraries adopted across teams.
• Familiarity with reducing flakiness and improving reliability of continuous testing pipelines at scale.
