Job summary

CanKids KidsCan in India seeks a Sr. Social Worker–Pediatric Oncology to lead the Hospital Support Unit and the Change for Childhood Cancer State Project.

You will work with hospitals, state authorities, and families to ensure access to treatment, financial aid, and psychosocial support across sites. You will manage patient registration, family counseling, donor relations, reporting, and liaison with medical teams, aiming to improve survival outcomes and quality of life for children with cancer

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or related field.
• Strong grasp of social issues and challenges faced by families dealing with pediatric oncology.
• Empathetic, resilient and able to handle crises while supporting care teams.
• Proficient in data management, documentation and reporting software.

Responsibilities

• Hospital Support Unit Management: Oversee registration and documentation of new patients, ensuring admission criteria are met and verified.
• Family Counseling and Financial Facilitation: Provide guidance to families and coordinate funding through CanKids programs, trusts and government initiatives.
• Clinical Liaison: Bridge between medical staff and families to clarify treatment plans and resolve care-related queries.
• Database and Reporting: Maintain patient records and generate progress reports for stakeholders.
• Administrative Oversight: Supervise the social support team and align tasks with program goals.
• Medical Billing Coordination: Collaborate with medical team to process invoices, vouchers and claims.
• Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization: Engage donors and coordinate with teams to secure funding.
• Regional Coordination: Support resource acquisition across Western and other regions.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain relationships with hospital admins and state officials to meet partnership objectives.

Sr. Social Worker– Pediatric Oncology Support

Summary

This role serves as a vital operational and empathetic link within Cankids' National Outreach Program, dedicated to advancing holistic care for children battling cancer and their families across India. The incumbent will oversee the execution of two primary support frameworks: the Cankids Hospital Support Unit (CHSU) and the Change for Childhood Cancer State Project. By fostering strategic partnerships with medical centers and state authorities, the position ensures equitable access to high-quality treatment, financial assistance, and psychosocial support. The ultimate objective is to elevate survival rates to global standards while safeguarding the rights and well-being of young patients and their families throughout their entire care journey.

Responsibilities

• Hospital Support Unit Management: Oversee the registration and documentation of new patients, ensuring all admission criteria are met and verified.
  
• Family Counseling and Financial Facilitation: Provide compassionate guidance to families regarding treatment protocols and associated costs, while coordinating funding support through Cankids programs, external trusts, and government initiatives.
  
• Clinical Liaison: Act as a primary bridge between medical staff and patient families to clarify treatment plans, address queries, and resolve care-related challenges.
  
• Database and Reporting: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of patient adoptions and fundraising activities, and generate regular progress reports on project impact for internal and external stakeholders.
  
• Administrative Oversight: Supervise the social support team within the unit, managing daily administrative tasks and ensuring alignment with program goals.
  
• Medical Billing Coordination: Collaborate with the medical team to process invoices, vouchers, and financial claims efficiently.
  
• Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization: Cultivate relationships with existing, prospective, and high-net-worth donors, organizing meetings and coordinating with the Resource Mobilization teams to secure necessary funding.
  
• Regional Coordination: Manage donor databases and provide backend support for resource acquisition across Western and other designated regions.
  
• Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong working relationships with hospital administrations and state government officials to ensure the successful delivery of partnership objectives.
