Job summary

SkyPoint Cloud Inc. is seeking a Senior SharePoint Engineer for a 4–6 month contract to migrate a client's legacy intranet to SharePoint Online. The role covers content migration, hub-and-spoke architecture, and modern intranet development.

You will work closely with U.S.-based stakeholders, build pages, implement branding, and script migrations using PnP PowerShell. PST/PDT hours will apply, with strong communication and independent delivery expected.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior SharePoint Engineer for a 4–6 months contract engagement to support the migration and redesign of a client's legacy on-premises intranet to SharePoint Online.

The new intranet design, information architecture, and technical approach have already been defined. The target environment follows a hub-and-spoke architecture, consisting of a central hub and 11 department communication sites.

This is a highly hands-on role, with responsibilities split approximately equally between migrating content from a legacy SQL Server application and building/configuring the new SharePoint Online intranet.

This is also a client-facing position requiring regular interaction with U.S.-based stakeholders. The consultant must be comfortable working during PST/PDT business hours. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to independently lead technical discussions, provide progress updates, and work directly with client stakeholders.

What You'll Do

SharePoint Online Development & Intranet Build

Provision and configure modern SharePoint Online communication sites and associate them with a central hub.

Build modern SharePoint pages according to an approved design using sections, Hero, News, Events, Quick Links, Highlighted Content, People, and other web parts.

Implement consistent branding and theming across the central hub and department sites.

Configure hub navigation, information architecture, and audience targeting.

Create reusable site and page templates to maintain consistency across department sites.

Build and configure document libraries, site columns, content types, and managed metadata.

Configure and optimize Microsoft Search.

Migration & Automation

Design, develop, and execute scripted content migrations from the legacy environment to SharePoint Online.

Write and maintain PnP PowerShell scripts for provisioning, configuration, automation, and migration.

Query the legacy SQL Server database to identify and extract content and associated metadata.

Extract documents stored as binary data in SQL Server and migrate them to SharePoint Online while preserving required metadata.

Perform migration validation and troubleshoot content, metadata, permissions, and data-quality issues.

Ensure migrated content is accurately mapped to the new SharePoint information architecture.

Security & Permissions

Create and manage Microsoft Entra ID security groups.

Implement the defined SharePoint permissions model across the hub and department sites.

Ensure appropriate access controls are consistently applied across sites, libraries, and content.

Support security and access validation before production go-live.

Client Engagement & Delivery

Work directly with U.S.-based client stakeholders throughout the implementation.

Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, migration reviews, and implementation walkthroughs.

Clearly communicate technical requirements, dependencies, risks, issues, and project progress.

Translate client requirements and feedback into appropriate SharePoint configurations and technical solutions.

Support content reviews, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), issue resolution, and go-live activities.

Independently manage assigned deliverables and provide regular progress updates without requiring close supervision.

Required Skills & Experience

3+ years of hands-on SharePoint Online experience in development, implementation, intranet, or migration roles.

Strong hands-on experience with PnP PowerShell, including writing provisioning, automation, and migration scripts—not simply executing existing scripts.

Strong experience building modern SharePoint pages using layouts, web parts, page templates, site templates, hub navigation, and audience targeting.

Experience implementing SharePoint branding and theming across multiple sites.

Strong T-SQL skills, including the ability to understand and query unfamiliar database schemas and retrieve binary data.

Hands‑on experience with custom or scripted content migrations, rather than relying exclusively on tools such as ShareGate or SPMT.

Strong knowledge of document libraries, content types, site columns, managed metadata, and information architecture.

Experience with Microsoft Entra ID security groups and SharePoint permissions.

Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving capabilities.

Ability to independently own technical deliverables and work with limited supervision.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

Comfortable communicating directly with technical and non-technical client stakeholders.

Must be comfortable working PST/PDT hours to collaborate with U.S.-based clients and teams.

Preferred Skills

Previous experience working directly with U.S.-based clients and stakeholders.

Experience deploying SPFx packages through a tenant app catalog.

Experience with Viva Connections.

Knowledge of Power Apps and Power Automate.

Familiarity with Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels.

Experience working with regulated, confidential, or sensitive data.

Previous experience delivering enterprise intranet modernization or SharePoint migration projects.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on SharePoint professional who can hit the ground running and independently own both the technical build and migration activities.

You should be equally comfortable creating a polished modern SharePoint experience and getting hands‑on with PnP PowerShell, SQL Server, metadata, permissions, security groups, and custom migration scripts.

Because this is a client-facing engagement, we are also looking for someone who communicates confidently, can lead technical conversations with U.S.-based stakeholders, and can provide clear and proactive updates throughout the project.
