Deutsche Telekom Digital Labs (DTDL) is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with strong expertise in API Automation, Java, and Quality Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for designing scalable automation frameworks, validating complex backend systems, and ensuring the quality of enterprise‑grade digital products. You will work closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, QA Engineers, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment to deliver highly reliable, scalable, and high‑performing applications.
The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
Test Strategy and Quality Engineering
- Design comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and automation approaches for new product features.
- Develop and maintain scalable API automation frameworks using Java and REST Assured.
- Ensure high‑quality software delivery through functional, regression, integration, and end‑to‑end testing.
- Participate in requirement analysis, sprint planning, and design discussions to drive quality from the early stages of development.
API Automation and Validation
- Build and execute automated API test suites using REST Assured, Postman, and Karate.
- Validate REST APIs, request/response payloads, authentication flows, and error handling.
- Leverage AI‑assisted tools for API automation, test data generation, and script optimisation while validating generated outputs.
- Perform API verification using Postman Collections and automation frameworks.
- Analyse API logs, test reports, and execution results to identify defects and bottlenecks.
Development and Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Developers, Product Managers, QA, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment.
- Contribute to continuous integration and continuous testing pipelines.
- Participate in code reviews and improve automation framework quality and maintainability.
- Support defect triaging and root cause analysis.
Performance and System Validation
- Validate backend services for scalability, reliability, and stability.
- Perform backend performance testing using JMeter or Gatling.
- Analyse application behaviour using monitoring and logging tools.
- Validate Non‑Functional Requirements (NFRs) such as performance, reliability, and stability.
Requirements
- 5.8–7.8 years of experience in Software Testing / Test Automation / SDET roles.
- Strong expertise in API Automation using REST Assured.
- Excellent programming skills in Java.
- Hands‑on experience with Postman and Karate Framework.
- Experience creating automation frameworks from scratch or enhancing existing frameworks.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and HTTP protocols.
- Experience with AI‑assisted testing tools for automation, test generation, and script optimisation.
- Good knowledge of SQL and database validation.
- Experience with API testing, functional testing, regression testing, and integration testing.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
Good to Have
- Knowledge of Python, GoLang, C, or C++.
- Experience with Android Studio, Xcode, ADB, Charles Proxy, Fiddler, or Burp Suite.
- Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.).
- Basic understanding of Security Testing.
- Linux/Unix command‑line and Shell scripting experience.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Grafana, Kibana, or InfluxDB.
- Knowledge of Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Crashlytics.
- Performance testing using JMeter, Gatling, or Go‑based tools.
- Understanding of Non‑Functional Requirements (NFRs) such as performance, crash analysis, battery optimisation, and data consumption.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working in large‑scale product‑based organisations.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, concurrency, and high availability.
- Experience integrating automation suites with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, etc.).
