Job description

Job Description:

Our Purpose

TERADYNE, where experience meets innovation and driving excellence in every connection. We are fueled by creativity and diversity of thought and in our workforce. Our employees are supported to innovate and learn something new every day. We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team - one that makes better decisions, drives innovation and delivers better business results.

Universal Robots, part of Teradyne Robotics, is the world market leader in collaborative robots (cobots), making products that empower our customers and positively transform the way they work. Teradyne Robotics is a division of Teradyne and includes Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR). Our global R&D organization of 200+ engineers builds the software and systems behind every cobot we ship.

Opportunity Overview

You will join a team of talented and passionate engineers developing, testing, and optimizing the software and firmware running on our various robot platforms.

As a Senior Robotics Engineer on the Simulation team, you will own significant parts of the software and systems that make simulation of UR cobots and MiR mobile robots possible at scale. Simulation is central to how we reduce integration time, validate fleet behaviour, and let customers model their own environments and workflows before a single unit reaches their floor.

This role sits closer to systems and software engineering than to classical robotics research. Much of your time will go into designing services and APIs, building distributed simulation infrastructure across cloud and on-premises GPU environments, writing performant C++ and Python, and making the whole pipeline reliable, observable, and fast. Your robotics background is what lets you do that well - you understand what a robot model needs to represent, why a physics step matters, and where simulation diverges from reality - but the day-to-day work is building robust software systems around those concerns.

You will collaborate with research scientists working on world models and 3D scene generation, with application engineers who understand real customer deployments, and with the wider R&D organization across Denmark and Bangalore.

Your Responsibilities And Tasks Include
  • Design, build, and own major components of the simulation platform - services, APIs, orchestration layers, and the pipelines that tie them together.
  • Architect and scale simulation infrastructure across cloud and on-premises GPU environments, including job scheduling, resource allocation, environment versioning, and fault tolerance.
  • Write performant, production-quality C++ and Python, and make pragmatic engineering trade-offs between simulation fidelity, runtime performance, and maintainability.
  • Build and maintain accurate robot models - kinematics, dynamics, sensors, and controllers - ensuring simulated behaviour faithfully reflects real hardware.
  • Implement and optimise ROS-based integrations so simulated robots interoperate seamlessly with the same software stack running on physical systems.
  • Develop the tooling and internal services that let engineers, application teams, and customers configure, launch, monitor, and analyse simulation runs.
  • Build capabilities for importing customer models and environments, and for creating custom scenarios and workflows that reflect real deployment conditions.
  • Contribute to multi-agent simulation supporting fleet-level coordination, zone layout, and multi-robot interaction scenarios.
  • Build the data layer behind simulation - storage, retrieval, and versioning of large-scale simulation outputs, logs, and sensor streams.
  • Establish automated testing, validation, and benchmarking frameworks that measure simulation fidelity and tie results to integration time and fleet performance.
  • Own reliability and observability for the systems you build, including instrumentation, monitoring, and diagnosis of performance bottlenecks across the stack.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling that keep simulation systems continuously validated and easy to ship.
  • Work with research scientists to productionise world models and generated 3D scenes into reliable, repeatable simulation workflows.
  • Participate actively in design and code reviews, help uphold engineering standards, and support the growth of engineers around you.
  • Partner with product, application, and customer-facing teams to translate real deployment challenges into simulation capabilities.
All About You

We seek individuals who share our passion and determination. Our commitment to customer success drives us to go the extra mile. If you're ready to join us in this mission, take a closer look at the minimum criteria for the position.

We value diversity in culture, competence, and experience. We expect you to bring a number of qualifications to be considered for this role.

Mandatory Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent building robotics or simulation systems.
  • Strong programming proficiency in C++ and Python, with a demonstrated ability to write production-quality, well-tested, maintainable code.
  • Solid software engineering foundations - API and service design, data structures, concurrency, performance profiling, and debugging complex systems.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS2, including building nodes, working with the middleware, and integrating with robot hardware or simulators.
  • Practical experience with at least one robotics simulation environment (e.g. Gazebo, Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, Webots, or CoppeliaSim).
  • Working understanding of robotics fundamentals - kinematics, dynamics, control, coordinate transforms, and sensor modelling.
  • Experience building and operating software infrastructure: containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment of services in cloud or on-premises environments.
  • Comfortable owning a system end to end - design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance - in a Linux environment with modern development workflows.
Proficiency required in at least five of the following qualifications:
  • Backend service development and distributed systems design, including scheduling, queuing, and fault-tolerant architectures.
  • Cloud infrastructure and orchestration - AWS, Azure, or GCP, with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • GPU-accelerated simulation and rendering, including experience with CUDA or NVIDIA Isaac Sim / Omniverse.
  • Physics engines and their tuning for contact-rich or high-fidelity robotic interaction (PhysX, Bullet, ODE, MuJoCo).
  • Data pipelines and time-series or large-scale sensor data handling, including schema design and storage optimisation.
  • Observability and reliability engineering - logging, metrics, tracing, and diagnosing issues in distributed systems.
  • Mobile robotics concepts including SLAM, navigation stacks, path planning, and fleet management.
  • Manipulator robotics including motion planning, trajectory generation, and collision checking.
  • 3D geometry, scene representation, and asset pipelines (USD, URDF, SDF, mesh processing).
  • Multi-agent or fleet-scale simulation and the coordination and performance challenges it introduces.
  • Machine learning workflows and experience deploying trained models into production systems.
  • Digital twin development and sim-to-real validation methodologies.
  • Real-time systems, embedded software, or robot firmware development.
