Job summary

Continuity 1 is seeking a senior Python data engineer to own and optimize large-scale data pipelines in a cloud/containerised environment.

You will work in a small, expert team, focusing on performance, reliability, and maintainability of production systems, with hands-on experience of Pandas, NumPy, SQL.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Python development experience in production environments.
• Experience with containerized deployments and cloud infrastructure.
• Proficient in SQL databases and data modeling.

Responsibilities

• Own and improve deployment and runtime behaviour of Python analytical engines in containerised/cloud environments.
• Work across application code, infrastructure configuration, CI/CD pipelines, and operational troubleshooting.
• Improve integration of analytical engines with surrounding services and workflows.
• Implement practical approaches for data exchange, interfaces, messaging, and operational constraints.
• Investigate, diagnose, and improve performance, reliability, and scalability issues in deployed environments.
• Address container start-up behaviour, runtime initialisation, resource configuration, and operational bottlenecks.
• Develop and maintain Python-based applications and services.
• Collaborate with product owners, project management, and other developers to define and implement new features.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
• Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues in a timely manner

Role & responsibilities

• Strong hands-on experience with Python, NumPy, Pandas, and SQL.
• Experience handling millions of data records/pipelines per day in high-volume environments.
• Strong focus on performance optimization, deployment, reliability, and maintainability.
• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and supporting scalable data pipelines.
• Experience working in the Financial Services domain.
• Comfortable working in a small, specialist engineering team with strong ownership of production systems.
• Proven ability to develop reliable, scalable, and maintainable engineering solutions.
• 5 years of hands-on Python development experience
• Ownership of production or production-adjacent services where performance, reliability, testing, and maintainability mattered
• Experience designing, deploying, and supporting Python services in production-like environments
• Experience with APIs, containers, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Proficiency in version control systems (Git)
• Knowledge of database systems and SQL (MS SQL Server and Azure SQL)
• Strong problem-solving skills and technical judgement
• Ability to investigate unfamiliar engineering problems independently
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
