Job summary

Whirlpool Corporation's Global Technology & Engineering Centre in Maharashtra seeks an experienced mechanical design engineer to lead development of components, modules and subsystems for consumer appliances. You will build on DFMEA, tolerance analysis and DFx methods while aligning with product requirements and project targets.

You will guide cross functional teams, interpret lab and simulation results, and drive design decisions, materials selection and test plans, using Windchill for design

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech with 6–10 years in product development.
• M.Tech with 5–8 years in product development.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross functional projects and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Interpret lab reports / simulation reports to drive the design decisions.
• Lead to generate and recommend the developed engineering concepts and effectively communicate to different stakeholders during project/design reviews as part of the product development process.
• Responsible for converting Consumer Requirements into Engineering Requirements.
• Drive the usage of DFMEA, Tolerance stack up analysis and apply DFx (DFA, DFM, DFR, DFS, DFSS) methodologies during product design and development.
• Drive material selection based on functional requirements.
• Responsible for product/ subsystem specific test plans as per standards to get the design changes approved.
• Creates Model Shop / Lab requests / Simulation requests and support in Virtual/ Physical build as applicable.
• Utilize the PLM (Windchill) system for design release, documentation control and workflow.

The team you will be a part of

The Engineering team discovers, develops and evaluates new product ideas, enhancements, or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products. Leads, plans and tracks all phases of the product life cycle, from inception to introduction into the marketplace. Coordinates with various functions to ensure successful product development and implementation.

This Role In Summary

The position is responsible to lead and execute design and development of component/ module /subsystem by preparing concepts in Mechanical Structures, thermal, hydraulics , combustion and mechatronics. Builds on organizational/process knowledge, understands business needs. Solves complex problems, trade-offs & prioritizes design decisions.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

Education

Minimum requirements

• B.E / B.Tech : 6-10 years in product development industry
• M.Tech : 5-8 years in product development industry

Experience:

6- 10 years B.E/B.Tech and 5-8 years M.Tech

Key Deliverables

• Release Product / Subsystem / Module / Component designs & drawings as per project targets.
• Product Design tools - Concept Selection Matrix, DFMEA, Tolerance Stack Ups, DVP etc.
• Design Validation & Verification Reports - Lab requests, Prototyping requests, Simulation requests as required in the project.
• Project Management Tools - Project Scheduling, Scope & Risk Management.

Preferred Skills And Experiences

• Proficiency & Experience in designing parts in Sheet metal, Plastic, Casting and other manufacturing processes and materials
• Proficient knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and tools to verify design for assembly/ Reliability/ Manufacturability/ Safety.
• Proficient & Experience in GD&T, Design Standards, variation analysis, DFMEA.
• Proficient & Experience in material selection and in-depth knowledge in metal, alloy & polymer materials
• Ability to interpret Simulation / Test results.
• Proficient & Experience in Product Development process.
• Proficient & Experience in project planning & management.
• Hands on experience on Six sigma/OPEX/ Lean tools and practices.
