Job description

About Chargebee

Chargebee is a leading provider of billing and monetization solutions, empowering businesses with recurring revenue models to streamline revenue and finance operations, capture actionable insights, and drive growth.

Chargebee is trusted by businesses of all sizes, including Zapier, LegalZoom, Lambda, Freshworks, DeepL, Condé Nast, and Pret a Manger, and is proud to have been consistently recognized by customers as a Leader in Subscription Management on G2.

With headquarters in North Bethesda, Maryland, our team members are based primarily in India, the U.S., and Europe.

About the Team

Chargebee's Platform Product & Engineering teams are responsible for ensuring our technical platform and infrastructure meets the expectations of businesses who rely on Chargebee to run their most important revenue operations. These businesses depend on our technical platform to be robust, extensible, performant, reliable, stable, secure and scalable in order to process billions of dollars (and Euros, and other currencies) worth of transactions with enterprise-class service levels. Our Platform Product Managers make sure we consistently meet and exceed what merchants expect of our technical platform, working closely with engineering and technical and non-technical operations teams to do so.

About the role (Job Summary)

As a member of the platform product team, you will support our ongoing strategic focus on modernizing our platform — a series of initiatives in which we are investing significant resources. We're building a microservice architecture that powers a series of loosely-coupled capabilities used across Chargebee's product lines. Our modernized platform will support throughputs an order of magnitude higher than our legacy platform, with lower latency and higher service levels and will be built to enable rapid development cycles with built-in trust and integrity controls. The modernized platform runs on a standardized and abstract cloud fabric. In addition to runtime transactional components, the modernized platform will also include enterprise data management (including data science and machine learning applications), observability and analytical, and developer productivity components.

What you'll do (role and responsibilities)
  • Drive planning and prioritization for your feature area within a platform domain, define and track key metrics, and work closely with engineers to define feature functionality and execute against the roadmap.
  • You’ll focus on one or more of the following domains: APIs (endpoints & contracts, workflows, orchestration, frameworks and infrastructure); core platform services (including IAM, queue and job management, auditing, search, notifications, etc.) and service frameworks; transactional data management, enterprise data, DS/ML, and analytical systems; cloud fabric (containers, compute, storage, etc.); path‑to‑production (build, quality, release gates, automated testing and validation, deployment); observability, telemetry, proactive platform health management and incident processes; and platform initiatives (security, privacy/data protection; technical standards and governance and SLAs/SLOs).
  • Engage with internal partner teams (and external customers, where relevant) to gather product requirements and feedback through discussions, presentations, and preview programs, and translate that input into clear, detailed requirements.
  • Own the product lifecycle for your assigned features and services end to end — from discovery through requirements, build, launch, and iteration — shipping consistently against an established roadmap.
  • As you build fluency in your domain, increasingly help shape near‑term roadmap decisions for your feature area in partnership with Staff and Principal PMs, making sure your recommendations align with the broader platform strategy they've set.
  • Manage the product lifecycle for your feature area, working with cross‑functional partners (technical and non-technical) to solve concrete problems faced by Chargebee, our developers, merchants, and our merchants' end users.
  • Communicate progress, trade‑offs, and value delivered clearly to your immediate stakeholders and cross‑functional partners.
  • Conduct technical product discovery at the feature level: understand customer needs (internal and external) and technical constraints well enough to write sound requirements and make day‑to‑day prioritization calls.
  • Create detailed product requirements and acceptance criteria (within Agile Kanban or Scrum processes); manage your portion of the roadmap; prioritize within your assigned feature area.
  • Working with an analytics partner, track the input and output metrics (technical and business) relevant to your feature area and report on progress.
  • Working with a program management partner, follow operational processes and support staged, incremental roll‑out plans.
  • Help uphold SLAs and SLOs relevant to your feature area.
  • Operate with growing autonomy within a matrix environment; escal e and help resolve blockers, and build strong working relationships across engineering, program management, and operations.
What you'll bring (required skills and experience)
  • Domain‑appropriate knowledge: e.g., APIs (REST, GraphQL, etc.); streaming, OLTP and OLAP data systems; service frameworks; CI/CD, etc. (You are not expected to have full domain depth on day one; you should be a fast learner.)
  • Foundational systems thinking: ability to understand how the parts of a technical system fit together at the feature/service level, with growing ability to reason at a broader system level.
  • Background in platform product management with 5-8+ years of practical experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to listen and understand what drives people.
  • Experience working in a remote, distributed, global (cross-time-zone) company in a rapidly changing business environment, or a strong willingness and ability to adapt to one.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and in gray spaces, with support from more senior PMs.
  • Solid critical thinking, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with ecommerce, SaaS, or related software applications running on the internet; exposure to complex/distributed systems and cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability collaborating with cross‑functional teams outside your reporting line.
  • Past experience as a software developer or SDET, or equivalent technical exposure, is a plus.
  • Higher education in a technical field (CS, EE, Information Systems) or equivalent experience.
