The Energy Transition team provides services to clients from inception through development, construction, operation, and decommissioning, supporting clients over the entire lifecycle of a project. Our team’s expertise covers all Energy Transition generation and conversion technologies, including first-of-a-kind concepts and other low or zero-carbon technology. We collaborate with private developers, power utilities, government bodies, banks, lending agencies, contractors and OEMs to safely deliver projects while meeting and exceeding client expectations.
Responsibilities
- Work with the wider project team to lead and develop cost-effective, efficient and innovative solutions to complex problems to create practical designs.
- Deliver projects in various stages of maturity, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design.
- Prepare and develop C&I deliverables such as design basis philosophies, system specifications, architecture diagrams, datasheets, instrument schedules, instrument index, block diagrams, control room layouts, cable schedules, cable block diagrams and MTOs.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors on the development of equipment package designs and participate in technical evaluations of vendor designs.
- Develop proposals and bids for the EC&I discipline and contribute to multi-disciplinary proposals; draft proposals and develop scopes including conceptual designs and execution plans.
- Generate engineering cost and man-hour estimates, as well as schedules.
- Provide technical leadership and governance; collaborate with WSP UK office on design activities.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members.
- Develop and enhance processes, tools, and potentially implement new technologies into the design process.
- Conduct periodic quality checks for other engineers and designers.
- Exhibit ingenuity, foresight, and wise decision-making to proactively identify and resolve challenges.
- Contribute to the progress and growth of departmental tools and workflows to improve design processes, specification development and project implementation.
- Engage in training sessions and meetings addressing targeted organizational initiatives.
- Drive a “Safety by Design” approach on all projects, always.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant Engineering subject with postgraduate experience in Electrical and C&I design.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute (preferred).
- Ability and desire to assume a lead role in the development of C&I deliverables.
- Knowledge of design and construction of power and energy projects.
- Proven understanding of the design process with demonstrated ability to work with brief/scope documents, design concepts and calculations.
- Experience working with clients and contractors with diverse objectives in achieving technical solutions.
- Familiarity with 3D tools for engineering design is desirable.
- Strong proficiency in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in utilizing standard engineering techniques and procedures; demonstrates diligence, facilitation, teamwork, organization and problem-solving.
- Ability to manage tasks across multiple projects and meet conflicting deadlines; able to work independently or as part of a project team.
