What you'll build

As a Senior Platform Engineer (Associate Architect), you will take end‑to‑end ownership of critical components within SAP AI Foundation. You will design, develop, test, deploy, and operate cloud‑native platform services that power enterprise AI workloads.

This is a hands‑on senior engineering role combining deep implementation expertise with architectural responsibility. You will independently deliver complex engineering capabilities, influence technical direction across components, and drive solutions that improve platform scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency.

You will work closely with architects, product management, and globally distributed engineering teams to translate product requirements into robust technical solutions. You will also mentor engineers and contribute to the evolution of platform architecture while remaining actively involved in design and implementation.

• Own platform components across design, development, testing, deployment, and production operations.
• Independently deliver complex features with high engineering quality, transparency, and accountability.
• Contribute to the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and maintainable distributed systems. Evaluate technology choices, integration patterns, architectural trade‑offs, and long‑term platform evolution.
• Identify reusable design patterns and opportunities to simplify system complexity and reduce technical debt.
• Integrate platform capabilities with SAP BTP, SAP AI Core, SAP HANA and relevant enterprise services.
• Develop and operate microservices using Python, Java, or Go. Work with Kubernetes, containers, distributed systems, and cloud‑native infrastructure.
• Improve observability through structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, dashboards, and actionable alerts.
• Strengthen CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment automation, and developer productivity.
• Apply secure‑by‑design principles across authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, network security, encryption, and sensitive‑data handling.
• Follow engineering standards for code quality, automated testing, vulnerability management, and security.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with product management, architects, engineers, and distributed engineering teams.

What you’ll bring

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or backend systems development.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented programming, design patterns, and software design principles.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, API design, and cloud‑native architectures.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, or Go, with demonstrated ability to design and implement production‑quality software.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containers, and cloud‑native deployment patterns.
• Experience building, debugging, and operating distributed services in production environments.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, and software delivery practices.
• Practical knowledge of observability, production troubleshooting, reliability engineering, and performance optimization.
• Strong security fundamentals, including authentication, authorization, data protection, and secure software development.
• Ability to drive technical decisions, evaluate architectural trade‑offs, and communicate design proposals clearly.
• A strong ownership mindset, excellent problem‑solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across globally distributed teams.

Experience with SAP BTP, SAP AI Core, SAP HANA, or other enterprise cloud platforms is an advantage.
