Job summary

Ramboll India in Chennai is seeking a Senior or Lead Generator Specialist for Power Systems to work on large international projects. You will contribute to tendering and detailed engineering for power plants, generators, and synch condensers, with emphasis on robust machine–grid interfaces.

The role requires deep power engineering experience, strong client-facing skills, and collaboration across global Ramboll teams.

Qualifications

• 7–15 years of generator design experience in power plants.
• Experience with Balance of Plant (BOP) and HV electrical interfaces.
• Greenfield and brownfield project experience with consulting exposure.
• Strong client-facing experience on large-scale power projects.
• Fluent English; knowledge of an additional European language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support Power Plant/Generator design and detailed engineering activities for Power Systems.
• Tendering and detail design of power plants including turbines and generators.
• Create tender specifications and conduct technical evaluations for synchronous condensers and generators.
• Analyse reactive power, short-circuit, inertia, and voltage control performance.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, control, and grid-connection teams.
• Ensure compliance with grid codes, HSE, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with REN EEC and DK teams and other Ramboll offices.
• Lead roles (HOD/Team Lead/Lead Engineer) as applicable.

Key responsibilities, tasks & important relations

To add one senior / lead Generator Specialist to support Power Plant / Generator design and detailed engineering activities for Power Systems group of Ramboll Energy division, Chennai

As our new Powerplants and Generators Specialist, you will work alongside a dedicated team of Power Systems engineers across a broad range of projects, in Denmark and abroad. Your role will primarily involve tendering and detail design of power plants, including turbines, generators, across a range of power plant types and sizes, including thermal powerplants.

• Performing detailed engineering design of synchronous condensers and synchronous machines, including excitation systems, protection, and auxiliary systems.
• Developing interface definitions and specifications between synchronous machines and the grid, including transformers, switchgear, protection and control, and grid compliance requirements.
• Creating tender specifications and conducting technical evaluations for synchronous condensers, generators, excitation systems, and associated transformers.
• Analysing reactive power, short-circuit contribution, inertia, and voltage control performance, and recommending system and control improvements.
• Coordinating closely with civil, electrical, control, and grid-connection colleagues to ensure robust machine–grid and plant-level interfaces.
• Ensuring strict compliance with applicable grid codes, HSE, and environmental regulations.

• Works with other engineers in the project team of REN EEC and DK (or other Ramboll countries) team

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience with design of power plants, power generating systems, and synchronous condensers.
• Experience working with Balance of Plant(BOP) including HV electrical interfaces
• Experience with both greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Consulting experience on large-scale power projects with a strong client-facing emphasis.
• Experience with gas-fired power plants is desirable.
• Fluent English and an additional European language (advantage).
• Master/Bachelor of Electrical Engineering preferably Power Systems/high voltage engineering from recognized University
• Should have the experience of 7 to 15 years in Generator design in Power plant.
• Experience of at least 3 years in the consulting firm is preferred.
• Experience in working on US and European projects, Internatioal Codes and Standards(IEC, IEEE, BS EN, IS) preferred.
