Job summary

PACCAR India in Pune is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design, development, integration, and validation of steering and suspension systems for heavy-duty trucks. You will work on steering linkages, gear integration, and air suspensions, driving kinematics and durability tests.

The role requires a Bachelor's in mechanical/Automotive/Production Engineering and at least five years' hands-on experience, with strong NX and Teamcenter skills and GD&T expertise.

PACCAR India is looking for a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Pune, specializing in the design, development, integration, and validation of steering and suspension systems for heavy-duty trucks. The role focuses on delivering innovative, reliable, and cost-effective steering and suspension solutions, including steering linkages, steering gear integration, front and rear suspension systems, air suspension components, anti-roll bars, and related hardware to meet vehicle performance, durability, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at PACCAR, you will be responsible for the design and validation of steering and suspension systems, including steering gear, steering linkages, front/rear air suspensions, lift axles, and anti-roll bars. You will drive suspension kinematics, vehicle dynamics, durability and system release activities while collaborating with global engineering teams to deliver robust, manufacturable, and compliant vehicle solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Steering & Suspension System

• Steering geometry, suspension kinematics, vehicle dynamics, ride height, wheel travel, and articulation expertise.
• Suspension hardpoint and steering linkage optimization through kinematic and package studies.
• CAE/FEA correlation with physical testing for durability and structural performance validation.
• Field issue investigation, root cause analysis, and product quality improvements.
• Design and validation of steering & suspension brackets, castings, weldments, and mounting structures.

The Primary Function For This Position Includes

• Develop and maintain CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for castings, fabricated parts, and steering and suspension system components.
• Understand and apply design requirements, perform clearance and packaging checks, adhere to drawing standards, and develop designs in accordance with GD&T and Bill of Material (BOM) requirements.
• Investigate field issues, conduct root cause analysis, and support the implementation of product quality and reliability improvements.
• Participate in technical reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate design solutions, resolve technical issues, and support project deliverables.
• Provide technical support and guidance to team members as required to ensure timely and effective completion of engineering activities.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Automotive or Production Engineering

Knowledge & Skills REQUIRED

• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in Mechanical engineering.
• Strong proficiency in NX and Teamcenter.
• Strong understanding of chassis systems and interfaces.
• Strong understanding of sheet‑metal design and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to manage and design large assemblies efficiently.
• Excellent understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, and engineering drawing practices.
• Experience in tool clearance, reliability, and ergonomic assessments.
• Ability to collaborate with both local and global engineering teams.

Technical / Professional Experience Desired

• Familiar with truck systems and components
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and assembly techniques.
• Familiar with validation, test procedures and issue resolution
• ECR/ECN release system will be an added advantage
• Standards (Euro Norms)
