Job summary

BotLab Dynamics is a drone technology company seeking an experienced Mechanical Design leader to head the mechanical design function for UAVs, including multirotor and fixed-wing platforms. You will own airframes, structures, mechanisms, and payload integrations, driving from concept through production, with mentorship of the design team and collaboration across hardware, electronics, and flight testing.

Qualifications

BotLab Dynamics is a drone technology company developing advanced UAV systems, drone technologies, and large-scale drone show solutions. We work across multiple applications of drone technology, including entertainment, defence, and drone components and systems. We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design professional who can lead the mechanical design function and drive the development of reliable, lightweight, and production-ready UAV hardware across multirotor, fixed-wing, and other advanced aerial platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Mechanical Design function, including design, development, prototyping, testing, and production support.
• Own the mechanical design of UAVs, including multirotor and fixed-wing platforms, structures, airframes, assemblies, mechanisms, payloads, and supporting hardware.
• Design and develop fixed-wing airframes, fuselage structures, wings, wing mounts, control-surface mechanisms, landing structures, payload mounts, and other associated mechanical systems.
• Work on mechanical design for multirotor drones, fixed-wing UAVs, and other specialized aerial platforms, considering application-specific requirements.
• Develop and review 3D CAD models, detailed manufacturing drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and design documentation.
• Drive concept development, design reviews, prototyping, validation, flight-test support, and design iterations from concept to production.
• Design lightweight structures while balancing strength, weight, aerodynamic considerations, performance, manufacturability, durability, and cost.
• Work closely with Hardware, Electronics, UAV/Flight Testing, Firmware, Aerodynamics, Production, Procurement, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless product development.
• Support mechanical integration of propulsion systems, batteries, avionics, payloads, actuators, sensors, and other subsystems into UAV platforms.
• Conduct DFM/DFA reviews and work with manufacturing teams and suppliers to resolve design and production issues.
• Evaluate and select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes, fasteners, bearings, mechanisms, structural components, and other mechanical hardware.
• Support mechanical testing, flight-test observations, failure analysis, root-cause analysis, and implementation of design improvements.
• Review existing designs and identify opportunities for cost reduction, weight optimization, structural improvement, reliability enhancement, and performance improvement.
• Establish and maintain mechanical design standards, processes, and documentation.
• Manage multiple projects and ensure delivery within defined timelines, quality, and performance requirements.
• Mentor and guide junior and mid-level mechanical designers and engineers.
• Coordinate with external vendors, fabricators, and manufacturing partners for prototypes and production components.
• Take ownership of technical decisions and provide engineering inputs to product and management teams.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10–20 years of experience in Mechanical Design, Product Design, Aerospace, UAVs, Robotics, Automotive, or a related engineering domain.
• Strong experience in 3D CAD and mechanical product development.
• Proficiency in one or more tools such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or similar CAD software.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, engineering drawings, BOMs, and design documentation.
• Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, machining, sheet metal, composites, 3D printing, and other manufacturing processes.
• Strong understanding of structural design, materials, mechanisms, fasteners, bearings, joints, and mechanical assemblies.
• Experience designing lightweight structures and airframes for UAVs or other aerospace applications.
• Understanding of mechanical design considerations for both fixed-wing and multirotor UAV platforms.
• Experience with DFM/DFA and productionization of mechanical designs.
• Ability to analyze design problems and perform root-cause analysis and design optimization.
• Experience working with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
• Strong project ownership and team-management skills.

Preferred / Good to Have

• Experience in UAV/drone, fixed-wing aircraft, aerospace, robotics, or lightweight electromechanical systems.
• Hands-on experience designing fixed-wing UAV airframes, wings, fuselage structures, control surfaces, or related aircraft structures.
• Experience with carbon-fiber/composite structures and lightweight aerospace materials.
• Knowledge of aerodynamics and structural considerations for fixed-wing UAVs.
• Knowledge of FEA/structural simulation and tools such as ANSYS or similar.
• Experience with mechanism design, motion systems, actuators, and electromechanical integration.
• Experience managing vendors and manufacturing partners.
• Prior experience leading a mechanical design team or engineering function.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who can own the mechanical design function end-to-end, across different UAV platforms and applications, rather than only working on CAD/design execution. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working on both fixed-wing and multirotor platforms, solving hands-on engineering and structural challenges, and providing technical leadership, design direction, and mentorship to the team.

Education: B.Tech/B.E./M.Tech/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
