Job summary

Bechtel India seeks a Senior Materials Management Specialist to guide project materials management from study through execution, ensuring policy compliance and efficient inventory control across processes and sites.

You will lead material planning, liaison with Construction and Procurement, and coordinate with Engineering to ensure data consistency and timely delivery of equipment and bulk materials for global projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent with 10–13 years experience, or 14–17 years total work experience.
• Experience and skill in supervision, including selection, hiring, training, development and performance evaluation.
• Advanced knowledge of procurement operations related to materials management at various locations.
• Knowledge of Field Engineering, Construction activities, and standard work processes for materials management.
• Experience with Bechtel policies, instructions, and procurement guidelines is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Construction and Procurement to ensure material identification, availability, and site readiness.

• Oversee material warehousing, handling, control and site issuance.
• Interface between Construction and Procurement for design changes and scope adjustments.
• Monitor procurement performance to maintain milestone schedules.
• Develop and implement the Materials Management Plan in line with corporate standards.

Job Summary

The Senior Materials Management Specialist provides expertise, advice, and direction for project and field materials management activities during the study and or execution phases of the project to ensure the overall organizational effectiveness among all functions responsible for the materials management process. Establishes policy and monitors and approves the development of execution plans involving automated and manual material management and inventory control systems in accordance with project and corporate processes and procedures. Plans, directs, coordinates, and monitors personnel actions for material management staff (where applicable).

Major Responsibilities

• Provide operational direction to project materials management personnel across office and field teams.


• Maintain strong stakeholder alignment across Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Project Controls, and the Customer.


• Coordinate with Construction and Procurement to ensure accurate material identification, timely availability, and site readiness, including specialised equipment handling.


• Liaise with contractors to define and support material, logistics, and installation requirements.


• Monitor project schedules to ensure materials meet delivery timelines; assess impacts of changes and support contingency planning.


• Ensure adherence to the project execution plan and sequencing of key activities.


• Collaborate with Engineering to identify equipment and bulk materials, ensuring data compatibility across systems.


• Support automation/data integration across Engineering and Supply Chain systems.


• Oversee requisitioning, pre-buy strategies, and procurement progress to align with project schedules.


• Identify risks to material timelines, including approval delays and engineering deliverables.


• Issue and maintain the Material Responsibility Matrix (MRM).


• Develop and implement the Materials Management Plan in line with corporate standards.


• Interface between Construction and Procurement for design changes, rework, or scope adjustments.


• Monitor procurement performance to maintain milestone schedules.


• Ensure effective material warehousing, handling, control, and issue at site.


• Support training, development, performance reviews, and workforce planning (where applicable).


• Lead development and compliance of Field Material Procedures.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and minimum of 10-13 years relevant experience or 14-17 years relevant work experience.


• Experience and skill in supervision, including selection, hiring, training, development and performance evaluation.


• Advanced knowledge of all procurement operations related to the management of materials at area, regional, temporary and jobsite office locations.


• Advanced knowledge in Field Engineering and Construction activities, and knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures related to materials management functions.


• Advanced knowledge of all Engineering disciplines, the work process and the deliverables produced.


• Experience with applicable Bechtel policies, instructions, and Procurement procedures and guidelines highly desirable.


• Knowledge and experience in the use of digital supply chain systems, Engineering tools and other project data systems.


• Prior experience in major global, direct hire and contract management projects, which include Engineering, Procurement and materials control activities.

• Advanced knowledge of all procurement operations related to the management of materials at area, regional, temporary and jobsite office locations.


• Advanced experience in coordinating with Construction and Field Procurement, the plans for material identification, material availability in support of installation plans, and equipment requiring special handling at the site.
