Job summary

eBay is a global ecommerce platform that empowers buyers and sellers across 190 markets. We are seeking a Senior Risk Strategy Lead to shape risk policy, drive fraud prevention, and scale controls in collaboration with product, engineering and analytics teams.

You will lead analytics-driven risk initiatives, develop policy frameworks, and partner across functions to protect the marketplace while enabling growth.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in payments, risk, or related roles with leadership experience.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; SQL proficiency.
  • Experience building dashboards, reporting and driving insights.
  • Familiar with ecommerce risk: user verification, fraud and payments ecosystem.
  • Ability to define problems from ambiguity and align cross-functional teams.

About The Team And The Role

The eBay Services Risk Strategy function works to ensure phenomenal experiences when buyers and sellers come together and engage in commerce on the biggest marketplace in the world. This involves accurately understanding Payments Processing & Risk Managment on the platform, identifying the opportunity areas and helping build scalable solutions to drive outstanding user experience.

The team’s focus is to ensure the integrity of our marketplace for buyers and sellers who transact with us every single day. The scope of our charter includes Risk Strategy, Policy, and Vendor Management -- working across Product and Engineering, Decision Sciences, third party Risk services, and Global Operations to deliver innovative and scalable solutions to ensure healthy marketplace growth. This position involves working across multiple, integral teams within eBay, leaning on experience with Payments and Financial Services to drive innovation.

Successful candidates should be quick learners, strategic problem solvers and execution driven facilitators, with a keen sense of business insight and attention to details. This role is heavily cross functional and ideal for candidates who enjoy defining and solving complex problems and driving towards innovative solutions. Quantitative and analytics problem-solving skills will be essential along with a demonstration of exceptional interpersonal skills, initiative and integrity. Responsibilities
  • Develop significant insights that improve risk controls based on product and portfolio analysis.
  • Contribute to risk strategy development for emerging payment methods and new financial products.
  • Help develop and implement risk policy frameworks to manage fraud and credit risk, product and portfolio threats
  • Monitor the performance of risk strategies and proactively seek out opportunities for improvement in policy, operations and outputs
  • Partner with risk horizontal teams to deliver scalable global risk management policies through the buyer and seller lifecycle.
  • Establish relationships with cross-functional partners, product owners, engineering, business development and risk operations organizations to set shared goals, serve as the site lead for risk team to influence prioritization and facilitate the implementation of important risk strategies
Key Skills
  • Minimum of 7 + years of related work experience – payments and risk, business strategy, consulting or related experience. People management experience is highly desired
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, SQL; Experience building dashboards, reporting and driving insights is crucial. Experience with machine learning frameworks and models is a plus
  • Understanding of ecommerce/digital risk management in following area: user verification, payments ecosystem, stolen financial and account takeover behavior, fraud strategies, access/standards programs etc.
  • Ability to define a problem out of ambiguity and reconcile conflicting goals across multiple functions.
  • Experience in account level and portfolio level risk strategy development. You are willing to become familiar with industry benchmarks, technologies and standard methodologies.
  • Communicate ideas succinctly and accurately; tailor your communication to a broad range of audiences; active listening and good presentation skills.
