Aurolab in India seeks an experienced Senior Manager - Mechanical Design to lead the design and development of ophthalmic medical equipment from concept through manufacturing.

You will manage the mechanical design team, drive CAD modelling with SolidWorks or Creo, oversee prototyping, tooling, verification, and validation while ensuring regulatory compliance and cross-functional collaboration across Production, Quality, and Regulatory Affairs.

Qualifications

• 12–15 years in mechanical product design and development.
• 5+ years in medical devices or precision electromechanical instruments.
• 3–4 years leading a mechanical design team.
• Proven track record launching products from concept to manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of ophthalmic devices from concept to production.
• Mentor and manage mechanical design engineers and tooling teams.
• Oversee 3D modelling, drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analysis (SolidWorks/Creo).
• Coordinate prototype development, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacturing.
• Ensure designs meet ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and IEC 60601-1 standards.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager - Mechanical Design to lead the mechanical design and development of ophthalmic medical equipment and devices. The candidate will manage the mechanical design team and oversee product development from concept to manufacturing. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in mechanical product design, CAD tools, prototyping, tooling, and medical device development.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and development of ophthalmic equipment and medical devices from concept to final production.
• Lead, mentor, and manage mechanical design engineers, CAD engineers, and tooling teams.
• CAD & 3D Modelling: Oversee 3D modelling, engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analysis using SolidWorks or Creo.
• Manage prototype development, design verification, reliability testing, and product validation.
• Ensure smooth transfer of designs to manufacturing, including production drawings, assembly instructions, and tooling requirements.
• Identify and develop vendors for precision machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, die casting, and other components.
• Ensure designs comply with medical device standards such as ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and IEC 60601-1.
• Reduce product development and manufacturing costs without compromising product quality or reliability.
• Work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Electronics, Software, and Supply Chain teams.
• Resolve mechanical design issues, investigate product complaints, and implement corrective actions.

Experience Required:

• Total Experience: 12-15 years in mechanical product design and development.
• Minimum 5 years in medical devices or precision electromechanical/optical instruments.
• Minimum 3-4 years of experience leading a mechanical design team.
• Proven experience taking at least two products from concept to commercial launch, including transfer to manufacturing.
• Experience in precision mechanical design, tooling, moulding, prototyping, and manufacturing processes.

Educational Qualifications:

B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.

M.E. / M.Tech in Product Design, Machine Design, or Mechatronics.

Certification in GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

ISO 13485 internal auditor training.
