eBay’s Recommendations team builds state‑of‑the‑art recommendation systems that serve millions of buyers worldwide. We use cutting‑edge machine learning, natural language processing, and large‑language‑model techniques to deliver personalized product suggestions in real time on eBay’s website and native app platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of applied researchers and engineers with deep expertise in natural language processing, large language models, recommender systems, and ML production engineering.
• Drive personalization strategy for eBay recommendations and influence the look and feel of the eBay homepage.
• Influence how users interact with recommender systems in the future and shape the evolution of recommender technology.
• Work with unique and large unstructured multimodal data sets that represent eBay’s vast inventory and millions of users.
• Develop and deploy state‑of‑the‑art AI models.
• Deploy big data technology and large‑scale data pipelines to support high‑volume traffic.
• Drive marketplace growth and advertising revenue through organic and sponsored recommendations.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience (or BS/BA with 10+ years) in Engineering, Machine Learning, or AI.
• Experience leading a nimble engineering/research team, preferably in an ML/AI technology environment.
• Experience with cloud services, big data pipelines, and databases.
• Expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and industrial recommender systems.
• Experience in production engineering practices and software development in an OO language (e.g., Scala, Java) and high‑volume web‑app development in an industrial setting.
• Publications, patents, or technical blogs are a plus.
