Job description

Accurately and efficiently classify the mortality risk for proposed insureds within approval authority limit. Demonstrate advanced comprehensive medical knowledge and industry expertise to accurately assess cases. Responsible for assessing an applicant’s risk profile holistically, rather than an aggregation of individual risk factors. Expected to provide well-informed decision recommendations with the ability to engage with the Medical Director and Asst. Manager on high level case discussions.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Life Underwriter to join our team in Mumbai/Thane.

Experience

Relevant experience in Life Insurance Underwriting

We are specifically looking for candidates who hold or are currently pursuing any of the following:

• Certified Professional Underwriter

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strong working knowledge of the company’s administrative systems, product knowledge, Underwriting Guidelines and medical factors impacting mortality and morbidity.
• Assess potential risks to determine appropriate risk classification utilizing actuarial data, reinsurance guidelines, relevant statistics, and personal judgement within established authority limits, ensuring necessary referrals are completed in accordance with company policy.
• Participate in on-going medical, financial, soft skills, and leadership training.
• Communicate with stakeholders regarding application status, additional requirements needed, input errors, and required corrections, Reinsurance offer details and requirements, reconsideration questions, appeal requests, and the final underwriting decision and associated reason/s.
• Participate on projects where the Senior Underwriter's experience in underwriting, customer relations, and interdepartmental knowledge would benefit (such as training initiatives, workflow and systems improvements, Best Practices meetings, etc.).
• Accurately classify the mortality risk of cases up to $500,000.
• Ability to collaborate with reinsurers to negotiate the placement of cases exceeding the company’s binding authority or outside of the company’s risk tolerance.
• Manage referrals from Associate Underwriter's for substandard and decline cases.
• Participation in strategic discussions related to underwriting (the company as a whole) and offer valuable insight and suggestions.
• Adhere to and enforce compliance with all laws, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
• Any other duties as assigned.
