Job summary

IFF in Mumbai is seeking a senior toxicology scientist to lead flavor ingredient safety assessments and regulatory support across global markets. The role sits in a creative, cross-functional team and offers a hybrid work model with strong emphasis on scientific excellence and impactful outcomes.

You will translate complex toxicology data for stakeholders, guide testing strategies, and engage with regulators, customers, and industry groups while advancing IFF's flavor and fragrance science.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as DABT, ERT, or equivalent toxicology credentials are highly valued.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization, and project management capabilities.
  • Broad experience in toxicology, including repeat-dose, genotoxicity, and reproductive/developmental toxicity studies.
  • Knowledge of food, flavor, fragrance, scent, or related consumer product industries.
  • Familiarity with global flavor regulations and guidelines, including FDA, FEMA, EU, and CODEX frameworks.
  • Expertise in computational toxicology, risk assessment methodologies, and flavor and fragrance chemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide toxicology support for flavor ingredients, products, and related business areas.
  • Conduct toxicology and safety assessments for flavor ingredients across global markets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Commercial, and Creative functions.
  • Design and coordinate toxicology testing strategies to support regulatory approvals and new ingredient registrations.
  • Develop scientific approaches to support and defend ingredients and products across global regions.
  • Monitor toxicology studies to ensure compliance with applicable testing guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Review toxicity study reports and evaluate scientific data to ensure accurate, evidence-based conclusions.
  • Translate complex toxicological findings into clear recommendations for scientific, regulatory, commercial, and customer audiences.
  • Represent the organization with industry associations, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders while providing support for customer toxicology inquiries.
