Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Lead Engineer to drive quality for aerospace components, focusing on FAI, PPAP, APQP, and supplier quality management. You will ensure compliance with AS9102/AS9145, lead QA activities, and mentor engineers while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and supplier operations.

The role demands deep inspection planning, GD&T, and root-cause analysis skills, with hands-on work on complex assemblies and cross-functional collaboration

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical/Electrical & Electronics/Aerospace/Manufacturing Engineering
• 8–10 years of experience in Aerospace/Automotive sectors
• Experience with AS9102 and AS9145 requirements (minimum 6 years)
• Hands-on experience with FAI and PPAP creation, review, and approval
• Experience in process planning, inspection plans, PFMEA, Control Plan and Gauge R&R
• Experience supporting manufacturing sites
• Exposure to Machined, Sheet-Metal, Electro-Mechanical, Wire Harness, PCBA commodities
• Knowledge of Build to Print/Build to Specification for interconnect systems
• IPC 600/610/620, IPC 6012 and J-STD-001 familiarity
• Experience with special processes (wire harness, soldering, brazing)
• Schematic reading proficiency
• Hands-on with Net Inspect, DISCUS, Teamcenter
• Certifications such as AS9100 IQA Auditor, AS9102 FAI and PPAP signatory
• Experience with Aircraft Interiors product line is a plus
• Awareness or experience with APQP

Responsibilities

• Create, review, and approve FAIRs per AS9102.
• Create/review PPAP packages per AS9145.
• Handle Quality Notifications and escape management.
• Mentor engineers on supplier quality activities.
• Provide project support including estimation and metrics.
• Support root cause analysis using 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D.
• Read engineering drawings and specifications.
• Interpret GD&T and interconnect system requirements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to meet project objectives.
• Lead Kaizen and continuous improvement events.

Overview

Seeking an experienced Quality Engineer / Quality Specialist to support aerospace manufacturing and supplier quality activities. The role focuses on FAI, PPAP, APQP, quality compliance, supplier quality management, and continuous improvement, ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across aerospace components and assemblies.

Job Title: Senior Lead Engineer

Primary Responsibilities

• Creation, review, and approval of FAIR According To AS9102 requirements
• Creation, review, and approval of PPAP packages According to AS9145 requirements
• Quality Notifications (QN) handling and escape management
• Providing technical mentorship and guidance to engineers in support of operational/supplier quality activities
• Basic project management support including but not limited to, estimation, key metric monitoring & reporting
• Support root cause analysis and problem-solving activities using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto analysis, 8D, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) etc.,
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and Specifications.
• Design characteristic interpretation, GD&T interpretation, blue‑print reading, DPD interpretation, measurement equipment used.
• Collaborate with key cross functional stakeholders to achieve Project objectives and deliverables
• Lead continuous improvement events (Kaizen, QCPC…etc.)

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical/Electrical & Electronics/Aerospace/Manufacturing Engineering
• 8-10 years of relevant experience in Aerospace/Automotive Sectors.
• Expertise with AS9102 & AS9145 requirements (Minimum 6 years of experience)
• Hands on experience on FAI and PPAP creation, review, and approval
• Hands on experience in process planning Inspection plans, PFMEA, Control Plan and Gauge R&R
• Experience in supporting manufacturing sites.
• Exposure to Machined, Sheet‑Metal, Electro‑Mechanical, Wire Harness, PCBA commodities
• Good knowledge in Build to Print and Build to Specification for interconnect systems. Work experience with the manufacturing inspection and acceptance of Interconnect parts (cables harnesses) from multiple different manufacturing processes.
• IPC 600 / IPC 610 / IPC 620, IPC 6012 & J-STD-001 familiarity
• Understanding of special processes per requirements wire harness, soldering & brazing
• Good knowledge in schematic drawing reading
• Hands‑on experience in tools such as Net Inspect, DISCUS & Teamcenter
• Relevant certifications such as AS9100 IQA Auditor, AS9102 FAI and PPAP signatory
• Experience with Manufacturing/Assembly/Quality roles for Aircraft Interiors Product line is an added advantage
• Awareness or experience on APQP
