Job summary

AgileEngine is seeking a Senior Java Developer to own core billing infrastructure and ensure advertiser accounts stay accurate across multiple datastores. You will build Spring Boot services handling event-driven correctness and transactional consistency at scale.

Strong JPA/Hibernate, Kafka or SQS, and CI/CD experience are central to this role. You will contribute to production-grade features, strengthen observability, and implement safe deployment practices with Datadog monitors.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on backend engineering with Java and Spring Boot 3, building production microservices.
• Senior level with ownership of production services in distributed systems.
• Experience with GraphQL, Netflix DGS or Apollo Java/Kotlin client.
• Event-driven distributed systems using AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Strong JPA/Hibernate and Spring Data JPA with MySQL/Aurora including transactional design.
• Proficiency writing JUnit 5 tests with Mockito and integration tests.
• Experience with Gradle multi-module builds.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Datadog for metrics and monitors.
• Responsible use of AI coding assistants to accelerate development while maintaining quality.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Java Developerto own core billing infrastructure that keeps advertiser accounts accurate and in sync across multiple datastores. This person builds Spring Boot services handling event-driven correctness and transactional consistency at scale. Strong JPA/Hibernate, Kafka or SQS, and CI/CD experience are central to this correctness-critical work.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain backend Java/Spring Boot services, contributing feature development, bug fixes, and reliability improvements across BAM services.
• Solve problems around transactional consistency, event-driven correctness, notification reliability at scale, and safe multi-entity migrations for advertisers globally.
• Keep advertiser billing accounts accurate, compliant, and in sync across multiple datastores (MySQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB) and external platforms (Zuora).
• Deliver production-ready feature work and bug fixes via GitLab CI, with unit and integration test coverage meeting Jacoco gates.
• Strengthen system reliability through improved observability, resilience patterns, and safe canary and production deploys gated by Datadog monitors.

Must haves

• 4+ years of hands-on backend engineering with Java and Spring Boot 3, building production microservices.
• Senior level with demonstrated ownership of production services in a distributed-systems environment.
• Experience with GraphQL, either building APIs with Netflix DGS or consuming them via the Apollo Java/Kotlin client.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven, distributed systems using AWS SQS or Apache Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Strong JPA/Hibernate and Spring Data JPA experience with MySQL/Aurora, including transactional design and optimistic locking.
• Proficiency writing JUnit 5 unit tests with Mockito and integration tests against live environments.
• Experience with Gradle multi-module builds.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Datadog for metrics and monitors.
• Responsible use of AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to accelerate development while maintaining code quality and correctness.

Nice to haves

• Prior experience in the Billing or Payments domain.
• Experience with DynamoDB (AWS SDK v2) and/or MongoDB (Spring Data) in a multi-store architecture.
• Experience with Netflix DGS.
