Job summary

AgileEngine is seeking a Senior Java Developer to own core billing infrastructure, building Spring Boot services for event-driven accuracy across multiple datastores. You will ensure transactional consistency and scalability for advertiser accounts.

You will work on production microservices, GraphQL APIs, and integrations with AWS SQS, Kafka, and RabbitMQ, with a strong focus on testability using JUnit 5 and Mockito, and CI/CD in GitLab.

Qualifications

• 4+ years backend engineering with Java and Spring Boot 3.
• Ownership of production services in distributed systems.
• Experience with GraphQL (Netflix DGS or Apollo client).
• Event-driven distributed systems with AWS SQS, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Strong JPA/Hibernate with MySQL/Aurora; transactional design.
• JUnit 5 tests with Mockito; live environment integration tests.
• Gradle multi-module builds; GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Datadog for metrics/monitoring.
• Responsible use of AI coding assistants.
• Upper-Intermediate English.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to own core billing infrastructure that keeps advertiser accounts accurate and in sync across multiple datastores. This person builds Spring Boot services handling event-driven correctness and transactional consistency at scale.

The mandatory requirements are 4+ years of backend engineering with Java and Spring Boot 3, production microservices ownership, GraphQL, event-driven distributed systems using AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, or RabbitMQ, strong JPA/Hibernate and Spring Data JPA with MySQL/Aurora, testing with JUnit 5 and Mockito, Gradle multi-module builds, GitLab CI/CD, Datadog, and responsible use of AI coding assistants.

Must Haves

• 4+ years of hands-on backend engineering with Java and Spring Boot 3, building production microservices.
• Senior level with demonstrated ownership of production services in a distributed-systems environment.
• Experience with GraphQL, either building APIs with Netflix DGS or consuming them via the Apollo Java/Kotlin client.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven, distributed systems using AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Strong JPA/Hibernate and Spring Data JPA experience with MySQL/Aurora, including transactional design and optimistic locking.
• Proficiency writing JUnit 5 unit tests with Mockito and integration tests against live environments.
• Experience with Gradle multi-module builds.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Datadog for metrics and monitors.
• Responsible use of AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to accelerate development while maintaining code quality and correctness.
• Upper-Intermediate English level.

Nice to Haves

• Prior experience in the Billing or Payments domain.
• Experience with DynamoDB (AWS SDK v2) and/or MongoDB (Spring Data) in a multi-store architecture.
• Experience with Netflix DGS.

• Solve problems around transactional consistency, event-driven correctness, notification reliability at scale, and safe multi-entity migrations for advertisers globally.
• Keep advertiser billing accounts accurate, compliant, and in sync across multiple datastores (MySQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB) and external platforms (Zuora).
• Deliver production-ready feature work and bug fixes via GitLab CI, with unit and integration test coverage meeting Jacoco gates.
• Strengthen system reliability through improved observability, resilience patterns, and safe canary and production deploys gated by Datadog monitors.
